Just hit my best tank ever in my 2007 @207,998 miles!

I had 521 miles to the tank when i rolled into the gas station, but snapped a pic at the even 500 mark. Took 9.3 gallons to fill. (56MPG)

I want to upgrade to the 2016 Prius that gets 70+ mpg without really trying, but I don't like the new design. oh well maybe it'll grow on me.

I recently got a 2007 Prius with the Hymotion Battery Pack. Did my first fuel consumption test this month - topped up, drove it for a couple of weeks (369.7 miles) and topped up again (3.518 gallons) => 105.09 mpg :D

    MFD_FE_20160628.jpg

All of my trips are around town, most being around 20-30 miles. The Hymotion battery pack seems to last for about 15-20 miles depending on temperature, A/C running etc. Am pretty happy with the car, and the Hymotion battery pack seems to be working fine after seven years (service history shows that it was installed in 2009). They advertised it as a 100 mpg pack, and seems possible to achieve it if exclusively used for short trips (30 miles or less). But have to see how it preforms in cold weather.

I haven't done a long trip with the car yet. Am going on a 120 mile trip tomorrow, plan to take the Prius. Will turn off the Hymotion pack and test the fuel consumption in regular mode with the factory battery. Hoping to get 40+.

First test without the Hymotion Battery Pack gave a 51.6 mpg over a 110 mile trip at highway speeds (65-75mph). Much better than I expected, I was hoping for something between 40 & 45 mpg since I have the 150 lb extra battery pack in the trunk along with the jack, & spare wheel.

I was peaking around 74.6 MPGs in my 09 Prius with in the first 10 miles and dropped to 66 MPGs at 16 miles. The Telsa S Model is rated around 80-100 MPG. Not far from it. I was hypermiling the thing.

My mpg has dropped after last two times in for maintenance. 2006 Prius used to get 48-50 mpg now only getting 31-32 mpg--few miles on Interstate at 65 mph then a mile through a neighborhood. 80 degrees and humid

Why would it drop like that? Careful driver and only 67K on a 2006 one owner car.

It may not in reality be dropping.

If the service involved disconnecting the 12 V battery, then certain engine parameters get reset to default. It takes a week or two of driving for the engine ECU to relearn its settings and adjust.

I recently bought a 2007 Prius; one owner, used as government car, under 13k miles. I drive a lot for work so a hybrid is a necessity. Last night was my best mileage ever... so far. I drove 50 miles to get home with a [single] blinking bar of fuel. It only made one "bleep" sound for the entire trip. When I reached home I immediately went to Cumberland farms and refueled at 514 miles.

Funny thing is I always fill up with Arco, the other day I was empty and fill up with Chevron and look to be getting 40 more miles per tank or I'm I crazy?

EPA estimates are hard to meet or easy to meet, over the decades. My 1979 Plymouth Champ had 2 normal intake & exhaust valves(yeah, yeah... just 1 each, for each cylinder). It ALSO had a smaller (yes, smaller) intake valve that would activate at low rpms (while keeping the normal intake valve closed). The idea was at low rpms, the small intake valve would allow the fuel/air mixture into the cylinder at a greater speed, more thoroughly mixing the gases on the intake stroke & more thoroughly burning the gases during the power stroke. Under careful (low rpm) driving & feather footing, I averaged 42 to 45MPG (over two decades) & even had 46 to 48MPG tanks. Only once tho, did I ever reach the EPA highway MPG of 50, on a two tank average traveling from the Rocky Mountains to Lake Superior.
Now, my 2008 Hyundai Accent(EPA highway-32MPG) gave good MPG, MOST OFTEN, breaking the EPA rating. This summer, with the odometer running from 132,000 to 135,000 miles, the Accent delivered 8 tanks in a row over 40MPG, 5 tanks in a row over 45MPG & two tanks were 47+ & 48+ MPG. Yeah, you're right.... 1.5 times the EPA rating.

I reset my readings, but one thing many leave out of their stats, is ELEVATION.
We sit at about 1,600 ASL, with trips into areas that are above 4,000 ASL, and mountain trips topping 9,000 ASL.
This affects average mileage, and consumption.
As when I had my Beech twin, flight level changes airspeed and fuel consumption.
    Something to consider.

Our average prior to today, is about 41-52.6 MPG. Routes take us on journeys past 140 miles per day.
A tank fill usually lasts for 3-4 days, at $2.65 average fuel cost/gal.
Temp ranges currently from 48-71 degrees F.

I will perform another test, and post a screenshot of total miles for the tank.

Haven't driven my mom's Prius much, but my best drive was 20 miles at temps of 35 F, 70%-80% highway or thereabouts, newer winter tires at 50 PSI, for 53.4 MPG. Definitely harder to beat the EPA rating on the Prius than on my '06 Insight (75 MPG winter driving average).

    Old thread, but wth...
    Recently acquired:
'05 w/ 220k miles, flat dead hybrid & 12 v. batteries when I loaded it up & dollied it home.
Replaced hybrid w/ a newly Prolong regenerated battery as well as a new AGM 12 volt.
Ran Motul Proline Engine Flush before oil change w/ Motul 4200 & a can of their Ceratec additive. Also replaced PCV valve, installed new Ruthenium plugs & boots, air filter, etc., along w/ a can of Motul fuel system/injector clean. No, I don't work for Motul, or sell their stuff, but I take care of a lot of family members' Hondas & hybrid Toyota hybrids, so everybody gets the same.
I buy a lot if used Prii, so you kinda get a feel for which ones are ragged out & which ones are runners right from the start, and this one felt like a runner, so new Michelins and an alignment as well.
On my third tank now, with avg. temps 85 to 95 these last few weeks, and I have a weekly 300 mile trip around Baltimore that averages about 65 mph. Rest of the time it sees lots of country roads between 45 and 60. Mileage keeps climbing.
    1st tank was 50.9
    2nd tank was 52.7
    300 miles into tank #3 and it's 54.5
Not a hyper-miler, but I'm generally in no rush, watching far ahead for red lights I can coast down too and such, and reasonable acceleration from a stop, but no jackrabbit starts just 'because some anus behind me is late for work.
My gut says it's the synergy of all of the above that produces the good mileage, so I just keep doing the same to all of them.

Neighbor thinks I'm nuts for putting a new set of Michelins on a used car w/ 200k+ miles, but even without a compression test, I can tell this one's a long term keeper, so some fresh suspension & a new stereo are now on the list.
I do love these cars. :)

So, I’ve started to use Esso E5 Supreme Unleaded 99+ in the UK, the recently foisted upon us E10 fuel is horrible and really ruins your fuel economy.

This is from a 14 year old Prius Tspirit with 141,600+ miles on the odometer.
    This was my last tankful - all UK figures;
I managed my record best - 69.4 mpg (MFD).
My best range ever from a single tank of fuel - 653 miles.

225 miles of that was motorway driving which initially yielded 66.9 mpg.

Then the rest came from commuting to and from work (34 mile round trip daily in London).

Mitigating factors would be one of the hottest summers on record in London.

I think I really have beaten the E.P.A. here, no?

I'm at 176,000k and just did a fuel mileage test. 47mpg. I'll take it.
