Had the car for 9 days, and the fuel economy average on the MFD is showing 47.4mpg. I'm happy with that since it's not broken in.

I have noticed that when I filled the tank the first time, the trip distance on the MFD Consumption screen reset, but not the fuel economy average.

It was going well, 4.4l/100km. Then I had to drive home in a very strong headwind, 4.5l/100km.

    Oh well.

But later it came down again

Just finished the first tank at 47.8 MPG. :) Temperature between 30F ~ 50F. Half local (25~45 MPH) and half highway (50~70 MPH). Some gentle hills, a short stretch of stop and go (before traffic light).

Same here. I plan not to hit the reset button and get the life time average MPG easily. :)

I've been holding out for awhile posting here, but I guess now is as good as any. I'm typically getting 53-55mpg. Currently I'm at 57.5mpg. If I drive conservatively and get it in stage 4 quickly to take advantage of the elec motors, I get my best mileage. Now, there are a couple caveots: 1. I average 40mph going to work, and 2. the temps here are in the 70s. Last winter I was getting 49 on the same route but now that it's warmed up, I'm averaging 53-55, 3. If I drive like I used to (not conservatively) I'll get about 52mpg.

I'm a bit confused. You first say there is no difference, and then say that the difference is 2.3%. Do you mean that the average single-tank difference is 2.3%, and there is no difference in the lifetime numbers?

Thought I would throw my numbers in:D I filled my Prius up this Sunday and for my first 46 miles I have averaged 66 mpg:cheer2: Normal in the summer is 55 mpg, winter it drops to 48-50 mpg.
    I drive conservatively

I didn't say there is no difference. I was responding to the question, "Why is there such a difference...?" The question's implication was that there is a sizable difference between displayed fuel mileage and actual use, which there is not. After tracking data for a year and half now, I am confident that in my car the display is different from actual use by a little over 2% (actually 2.15% after the latest fillups). It is impressive to me how small the difference is and how accurately the car is able to compute it for the display.

See this thread for more, including a copy of my spreadsheet. If you have any further questions, you might consider posting there instead of here, since we're straying off topic a bit.

So I have gotten about 55 mpg over the life of the car so far, and with the warmer weather, that average should go up.

It will interesting on how my new Prius compares to my 2007 Civic Hybrid. I was getting 49-54 MPG until I changed the tires and they spiked the gas with ethynol. Now It get 45-47 ARGH!
Boy this Prius is sure different in a good way.
I noticed the steering wheel is angled to the left about 5 degrees.

I just bought a 2009 Base Prius about a month ago and have filled up once with an actual fill mpg of 56.5 for my first tank of 511 miles.

I drove the Prius for 150 miles to get some road under my belt before adding mods to the car to increase mpg. Prior to my first official fill I added a full upper grill block and one slot of the lower grill block. Tires are also at 44 psi front and 42 psi rear.

Following my first official tank I added a grill block to slot 2 and 3 in the lower grill block. After 275 miles I'm currently at 60.4 in-dash mpg and 57.4 Scanguage II mpg. So...I'm somewhere in the 58-59 mpg actual fill range right now. With warmer temps I should be close to or over 60 mpg soon! (Note: my max temp on the SGII has not peaked past 200 degrees since adding the grill block despite temps being 75, 82 and 90 in three of the last four days...constant monitoring in use).

My best 11 mile commute to work was 73.3 mpg on my SGII (roughly 75 mpg actual).

Additional planned mods are: Rear wiper delete, reduced antenna, wheel discs, passenger side mirror relocation). I'm a frequent user of ecomodder.com if you are looking for additional ways to improve your own mpg!

Glad to be a part of this forum and look forward to some good info. from this site!

So far on this tank I am doing better than usual. Temps in the 50's to 60's, hilly highway drive 22 miles each way. I normally get about 50.5 mpg on a tank down to 1 or 2 pips. I just refueled at a Shell station which advertises nitrogen enriched gas, but also had a sticker on the pump that says gas may contain ethanol. That being said for a potentially 10% ethanol fuel I am doing 57.3 mpg over 100 miles, my best average so far, and the car has about 1650 on the ODO.

I get psyched for 50 mpg, and hopefully I can maintain above 55mpg and someday I will hope to see 60+ mpg, although with the hills and the flow of traffic I find myself pushing the car to keep it around 65mph.

I just had my second oil change with Mobil1 0W-20 and recently go 63 mpg @ 59 mph over a 35 mile trip. My last 400 miles was mostly highway 70 mph and got 50.9 mpg. Goodyear Integrity's 52/50 psi.
