What was the old EPA estimate? 60/51? vs 48/45 new estimate? In other cars, I've usually gotten a number midway between the old city/hgy EPA estimate in mixed driving. That's around 55 by the old estimate. My first 150 miles I got 48, tire pressures 37/35. Mixed driving. My next 150 miles, I'm getting 52 mixed driving. About 75 miles ago, I raised the tire pressures by 1.5-2 psi. I'm at 39/37 or 38/36 right now. This is a brand new car the first 300 miles. I'm guessing it should be possible to get 55 in mixed driving. I think the new EPA numbers are on the low side. >50 mpg is a piece of cake--at least in the summer.
On my daily commute from Hatfield, PA to Philadelphia, PA (Temple Univ), I just clocked 60.2 MPG this week over 233 miles. I look at several senior posters here and see them regularly clocking over 65 or even 70. As the picture reveals, there are several dips in the MPG chart that I should work on and I'll keep plugging away at it. Hopefully, I'll get there soon. I have no mods on the car other than 42/40 tirepressure. Thanks Dan P.S. I'm hopelessly addicted to this car and this site. You would think that a normal man would be dreaming about a fine lass, yet here I was last night, dreaming about posting my MPG to the priuschat site.
Doing the math ourselves, we filled the tank up last night for our first time since buying the Prius. We had 20 liters left (5.28 gallons) in the tank. Doing the math we hit 52MPG and that was with us not driving it to moderately so I'm sure this tank will be better. Great car, I'm very impressed.
My best tank so far 64.9 MPG (US) or 3.62 litre/100km driven 543 miles. I'll post pics. 9th straight tank in a row >60 MPG. Happy motoring
Just bought my 2007 Prius with 17,000 miles on it. First tank of gas - 47.7mpg, second tank 52.0mpg. I am commuting 45 miles (round trip) each day on freeway at 60-62 mph.
I am still on this tank, but I am confident I can keep it above 64. I use CC on the highway and put it at 65. I might be able to shave off another MPG if I tried doing it myself, but I haven't mastered highway travel yet. Pretty good for New England, which has more hills, curves and bumps that rival just about any other horrible road conditions.
New record tank! 72.1mpg! New record tank!!! 72.1mpg!!! Previous record tank was 70.4. This will bring my MFD calculated life time average to 59mpg! I could have gone for a 700 mile tank also but I was on my way home when the last pip started flashing. I thought I could ride it out for the holiday but better not chance it and get the cheaper gas. This will most likely be my last record tank with my stock Prius. (HINT: Hymotion )
I now have 996 miles on our 2008 Prius and have consumed 18.982 gallons of fuel. My fuel economy for that distance is 52.5mpg. I have been driving with a "light foot" as much as possible and when on the x-way drive at at steady 60mph. I guess that about 50% is x-way. I like it!!
last tank was 57.8mpg. got 562 miles on the tank with blinking pip. could have got to 600 but didn't want to push it. 9000 miles on car, bought in october, dont drive much. most of the miles were freeway, 880 from san jose to oakland and back, i think that the quality of the freeway made the mpg jump. also relitively level road.
2008 Prius Touring: Last tank 53.9mpg. Denver Colorado, altitude 5,280 feet above sea level, mostly interstate driving and some city driving, commute 60 miles round trip each day. Great car does well in high mountains and in the snow>>>>
warning, moderately long post ahead... i love going to the gas station, especially when they're really busy. i got out of a workshop today and decided to fill up, even though i still had 5 pips left, since i'm making a 200 mile trip tomorrow and gas at my destination is more expensive. so i pull into Brookshire's next to a guy with an Infiniti SUV, get out and start putting gas in. now, i love having conversations with people at the pump, especially when it starts with the classic questioning, "what kinda mileage you get in that thing? that's a hybrid, right?" Infiniti driver doesn't say anything at first, but then can't resist as it is taking his car a really long time to fill up. "well, this tank my screen is reading 59.6, but that's only over 315 miles." he smiles and nods and proceeds to turn back to his car. then he stops, he takes his sunglasses off, and slowly turns back to me. "you're getting what?" "about 60 on this tank, but the average driver gets probably closer to 50." "60?!" "yes sir." at this point my car clicks off at 4.4 gallons (oops! 72 mpg for this tank!) and he is still sucking his wallet dry over there. he, moderately dumbfounded, asked where he can get one. I informed him that they are sold, just like any other Toyota, at a Toyota dealership, but he should check out Priuschat.com to help him with the purchasing decision. (yes, I did plug the website) he thanked me as his pump kicked off, we got in our cars and went our separate ways. it's reactions like his that absolutely make my day!
After getting an initial 48-50 mpg when first getting my 08 #2, I now consistantly average in the 54-55 mpg range. To make that small increase I've changed driving style, tried to use Prius driving techniques & looked at traffic routes to make that mileage jump. In addition I ride on 44/42 up from the dealer 36. Big difference, in fact had first oil change today-told them not change tire pressure/but they did/had them put air back to where I had it. At least they didn't overfill the oil-checked that too. Close one there.
I got my Prius on 7/14; eleven days ago. It had 2 miles on the odometer. I'm getting 55.7 mpg on the first 444 miles. I got the car in warp stealth mode on the way home from the dealer. About 80 percent of those miles were highway. In the two months I spent between placing an order and taking delivery, I read *a lot* of info about the Prius, mostly from Priuschat. This car is amazing. And Priuschat is an amazing resource.
To you guys and gals in USA this is going to seem like small potatoes, but to me 61.0 mpg (Imperial Gallons, so US is 50.8 mpg) is fantastic, particularly when I have averaged only 50mpg (41.9 US mpg) beforehand over 3600 miles. As an added bonus, I only ever expected to get 50mp Imp gallon when I bought my Prius, but this is really good for me. My drive was all in one go, 322 miles, 70% highway, balance rural and town roads and I expected the highway to cane my mileage as the Prius does not excel there according to EPA numbers. Wrong ! Keeping the car generally on or about 65mph worked a treat. Now I need another long drive, or a bigger country !
This is my best tank of the summer so far. A combination of summer blend gasoline, warm temps, little or no headwind, dry conditions and a little drafting behind semi-trucks.
Here is my first attempt. Pretty mediocre. In my defense the car was full of SCUBA bottles. Here is the cargo. About 600 lbs of bottles. Regards, Peter Doege
