I am looking to come back to the fold, is cat theft worth passing Prius by?

A neighbor with a gen1 had her cat stolen in front of her house. She bought the car new and always parked it in the same spot. They jack the side up and take cat. They aren’t looking for the jack points, The 5 has an exposed cat from pictures. Why would the 5 be immune?

The dealer told me the prime converter was higher up. Haven't verified it by going under the car yet. Backing up the dealer's claim though is the Toyota USA web site. The CAT shield is listed as an accessory for the Non-Prime Prius but not the Prime.

I see that. Not quite sure what to make of that. Also another thread talks about how earlier generations of the Prius had more valuable rare metals so were more attractive to steal. I'll have to do some more reading on the subject.

Having bought my gen3 from Deerfield beach south Florida Toyota and my gen4 from Evans in Fort Wayne Indiana, with the lack of interest in Prius in the respective areas (states?) at least I got some good deals.

 

Just check the local Walmart for a good look at the neighborhood. Musk brought a bunch of his California folks with him when he moved to Texas.

 

Don't these have a 2-part cat, one very high up, the other lower? The relative values of the two pieces then become relevant.

Gen 2 looking at the parts. Looks more like the gen 5. The gen 3-4 I know have the coolant extra part to worry about. I do worry about it. Maybe I should have gotten the Kia Niro ev after all. With it’s 1000 pound battery hanging under the car.

Some make up stuff on the spot on everything, some don’t. It is possible to look up the exhaust system parts for regular versus Prime on a Toyota dealer website and report the findings.
It became something much more than politics when someone said in Texas we can shoot thieves and trespassers, because no government, America, justice system for us. I just hope people are not starting to believe these things are ok and act out on it.

There are tons of videos on YouTube where one to 4 home invasion thugs will break into a home & the owner, defending their family - blows all or a few of them away. Such a shame that it cheats the DA & public defender out of a livelihood as well as apealate courts & the prison system. And it denies the taxpayer the opportunity to pay for their incarceration at a rate higher than many of us earn in a year.
