    btw,
Those are the old Tesla bubble nose #'s prior to the lower drag frontend change this year & the end of last year.
    As for the Mercedes Landbarge numbers - here's the typical article showing 'S class' lower than Prime numbers;

Not to beat a dead horse, but the point was - wiggily rear glass is not required to get record level CDs.

So the Model S did better than advertised and the Prius did worse than advertised. (There's the possibility of rounding errors on both manufacturer and C/D's part).

No it wasn't. Again, it was part design and part aerodynamics and it helped offset the increase drag of the new front end design for the Prime.

it's obvious that these cars were designed for the japanese market. to redesign the rear window because you made the front end so frantic doesn't make sense here.

Now now . . . some folks like it, some even like it's a lot.
Ok, some of us are reminded of Gammera - the1970 Japanese Syfy construct.

So I'm not sure about the rear windshield. When the car has been snowed on I notice the air doesn't really push it off the back. Winter's the only season I'll have to clean the back windshield versus flicking on a wiper for light snow. But otherwise not a problem.

One Tesla Driver said I had a nice car which is a true sentiment. The Tesla is a nice looking car but I must say, the Prime brings forward a new age of design which I applaud Toyota for. The Prius 4th Gen even looks better in person, but in pictures it looked just plain odd and led me to think "Why would they design that?"

Another Tesla Drive did a double take, staring at my car as he drove by. Others very similarly. It's a car that definitely stands out and I love it. On my 100 mile round trip commute, charging on both sides I'm miraculously able to do around
75% all EV. Now how in the world does that happen on an 8.8 kWH batter where as a 18.4 kWH battery on a VOLT would probably yield me 95% (yet it's more than double the capacity). But in the Winter, the Prime really shines with its heat pump. There's nothing like it. Seen many Volts' gas engines turn on with smog emitting from the pipes.

I do believe Toyota could do better, and demand has picked up for the Prime. But wow, it is an efficient car that the standardized tests of the EPA doesn't do it justice.

In the meantime I'm reading mixed reviews about the Ioniq and Niro in real life driving.......

Yes, I have been reading those reviews as well. Needless to say, my interest in the Ioniq has cooled. I'm in a wait and see mode.
I'd be much more comfortable with a Prius ..... I may just put off my purchase until the 2018 model and see if Toyota has made any improvements in the overall design. I am not expecting any technological advances. (they hit a 'home-run' there already)

Not the best source, but good comparisons and there's a larger variance of difference from EPA to their tests on other vehicles besides Niro: 2017 Kia Niro | Fuel Economy Review | Car and Driver

I've read the same about the Ioniq elsewhere, plus fuelly for Niro is lower. Don't get me wrong, it seems like a good mid-size car that's efficient, but the whole spectacle of beating the Prius and cross-country driving etc just becomes a big turn-off when they oversell that point and more people drop below EPA levels (whereas Prius owners seem to go above EPA levels once they drive in a certain manner).

As for the Prime, I expect minor improvements for 2018. But perhaps for 2019 a 5th seat and more range. Toyota had mentioned that they built the Prime to be easily upgradable in the battery department. I hope that they have an upsell of a battery installation process for maintenance and that seasoned Prime owners could benefit as well.

Thanks Inferno .... excellent reference and read.

Boy, I'm at a loss. The more I read the less I am interested in any new car.
I am really happy with my Avalon and will just drive it till it 'wont go no mo.'
I was mainly interested in a second car to save the Avalon from so many miles (46,000 and it is only a 2015)

So I went by the Hyundai dealer who told me 'it is on the truck.' I cracked a joke that it must be the same driver who said we'd have them in December.

Careful looking at posted Niro results. There are three trims, and each has its own rating.

Winter tires with winter weather is going to drag down any car's efficiency
