In an interview with the Hyundai guy it was mentioned that a section of the propulsion battery is dedicated to 12V loads. That saved something like 40lbs in weight.

I bet there is a section in the handbook "How to jump start an Ioniq?" ;)

What odds do you give that it will be on the same page number as where the Prius manual tells you not to jump start other cars?

Well, the aux battery can be debranched, so it may start any other car (as long as no more than 200A is required)...

I "saw" an Ionic EV (pure EV) today.. a few quick observations:

    1. dash showed 126 miles with AC off and 86% charge (it will show 100% on a full charge)
    2. with AC on, showed 112 miles of range
    3. surprisingly fast from 0-35.. but then it kind of loses steam.. but 0-35.. very impressive

JCI has a hybrid battery for start stop, with lithium on the high voltage side and lead acid on the 12v side. My guess is this battery is similar, but may have lithium chemistry for the 12 v side. It may be counter productive cost wise for the ioniq this year, but as time goes on prices will continue and go down.

That is my guess. A piece of the traction pack is separated off for 12v duties.

is this hyundai's attempt to compete with the Prius? I saw the car about 1 1/2 months ago. It looked like they were splitting the difference between a new Volt and Prius.

My driver's side mirror on my 2005 Prius was ripped off when I came up to a gate. I didn't know I had to enter a numbered code into a small key code box, which was in my rear blind spot. I backed up and the whole mirror and assembly came right off. I had to stick duct tape to it for a couple of weeks.
