Pretending there is a problem, when there isn't one, doesn't make it a problem.
    Be specific.
status quo is the prius (liftback, waggon (v)) has a command market share 34% in 2014, 37% in 2015 which is dominant. aqua is dominant in japan, and next in the US but only 10%. The biggest non toyota the ford fusion fell to only 6% in 2015. As hybrids lose market share, I doubt toyota will adapt without competition.

I welcome hyundai doing a dedicated hybrid. Thus far only toyota and honda have, and honda has done badly. If the ioniq can grow hybrid market share and hit a younger demographic, what is the problem? With low gasoline prices and hybrid market share falling from 3.2% in 2013, down to 2.2% in 2015, it needs all the help it can get.

Gas prices fell drastically only in the US. They are at about 4+$ per gallon in most of the world and that is probably the reason why Toyota focused more on home market and India.

Current world prices per US gallon (2016):
EU: cheapest: Chezch @ $4,18, most expensive: Netherlands @ $6,70
    China and Russia @ $3.40
    Japan @ $4.24

Ironically, pretending is the problem. Not addressing posts directly is a major contributor.

Amusingly, you weren't listening. We've been through this before several times. Any specific topic you'd like an example from?

Disappointingly, you have written of the gen-4 already. Why no recognition for the design changes?

So what is the problem if I might ask? You think that trolls are right?

From the postings, there has been recognition, assuming you are talking about the exterior and interior.
If you are referring to the mechanical and technical changes, again there has been a lot of discussion. Mostly favorable.

    Design.

For some people Prius is unattractive, but in fact it is about the only shape where you can get space AND aero.
Even the IONIQ made some (small) sacrifices for the design, e.g. notice that the hood is much more horizontal than in the Prius. Much more aero shape would be windshielf at the same angle as the hood, but would look weird. That would probably give it a mpg or two at the cost of the design.

GM likes to sacrifice being practical for the style. Note how the Chevrolet Camaro has apparently their idea of beauty, but inside is like sitting in a bunker (small windows), at least that's what every reviewer mentioned, and that windshield is the height of the average human head XD

Can't help myself, either all Korean people have become giants all of a sudden,or backseat headroom in the Ioniq is really not very good !
Could this be the sound of the engine ?

It would be nice if the above video's would have been in English. It LOOKS pretty revealing, IF, you could understand.

From some of you technical guys ..... what do you think specifically of the MotorGraph piece? (from what we can understand) As a layman, I think that Hyundai took a different approach than Toyota, especially with regards to the transmission, but what about the suspension? It appears?? they have some sort pf heat recovery on the exhaust.

If Toyota has released a similar video I haven't seen it. Too bad.

really makes no difference what systems they use, it's all about the mpg's.

    and reliability.

Agreed and that's why only the new Prius can be an option for me !

I agree with all of the above. My only wish is that the Ford Designer had gone to Toyota instead of Hyundai. (Look at the video and you will understand).

    Cost is the biggest hurdle.

It's easier to accomplish more when the budget is larger. Getting more out of less presents challenges.

Th video labelled MotorGraph has English subtitles. The narrator says the designer came from Ford.

thanks, i'll take a look. ok, looked at motorgraph. now i'm really lost. what does it have to do with ford, and why would you have rather he went to toyota?

edit: looked at the wrong motor graph. you mean the one where he says. 'look at how pretty it is'?
well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. looks vanilla to me, where prius looks like 'i'm driving something different, and like the last two iterations, everyone is gonna know and hate on it.':p

Yeah, I would rather the the i20 for half the price and most people still wouldn't know the difference, at least not by the looks of it.

Here's the i20 for the comparisons sake:

as always, no one wants to take away from the looks of their prime movers.
