The hydrogen-electric Fuel Cell hybrid broke about a week ago. It still ran but had no functional battery, so no regen braking or assist (max power was only 75% from the fuel cell). Here were the codes: BMS: 0038,0073,0072,001A, HT PUMP: 3500, TCU: 1200, VECU:00A0, 0069E, OO8B AND AAC:981A

The mechanic's diagnosis: TESTED REARE EXPANSION VAVLE FOR HV BATTERY COOLING. EXPANSION VALVE OPERATING PROPERLY. TEMPORARILY INSTALLED HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY FROM VIN 202. [That's a Mercedes demonstrator car.] BLED HV COOLING SYSTEM. ROAD TESTED VEHICLE SEVERAL TIME. NO CODES RETURNED.

NEW HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY IS ON ORDER. CUSTOMER TO RETURN WHEN PART ARRIVES.

Ahhh the joys of driving new technology. This will be the third time they replaced the battery. (1) Before I took possession. (2) This repair. (3) And in 6 weeks when it's repaired again. ;) :) :D

Troy I "liked" your post because you gave out some important information. Not because I liked that you are having problems. Who makes M-B's batteries?

That would only be part of the picture. M-B's control software could be pushing the battery too much, like Honda's did.

The stations are approved by the members of the california fuel cell partnership whose members include CARB and CEC as well as Toyota, Shell, Air Products, Linde etc.
System For Doling Out 'Hydrogen Highway' Grants Is Polluted | Consumer Watchdog
The station Troy is fueling in now is this funded by a DOE grant as a proof of concept but can only handle a car every hour.
Sewage Could Provide Fuel of the Future - Scientific American
And the question is will people buy enough cars to even satisfy this proof of concept DOE stepped in because CARB and CEC system had just been too hard requirements to fund stations even though the California mandate was set in 2004.

First element looks like a shaky company to do this well. It's principles are Mr. Ewanick the guy at gm behind the awful "chevy runs deep" campaign and fired for cooking internal books to get projects through, and DR. Brown from UCI, who wrote what many consider an overly optimistic outlook on how few fueling stations are needed, and was able to see all the bids.Neither of these guys have any experience running a group of service stations. Honda and Toyota are loaning first element money so they have enough capital to qualify for the california's grants which are fairly low.

...I don't think we've heard from Troy H. since around this Sept post, after I gave him a vote of confidence saying I believed he bought a FCV

I have seen this car driving around OC for more then a year. Is there more then one in OC? I have also seen the Hyundai SUV, Honda's, and GM's driving around in OC, mostly on the 405.

Toyota, Nissan, and Honda Agree on Details of Joint Support for Hydrogen Infrastructure Development
    Toyota Motor Corporation
    Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.
    Honda Motor Co., Ltd.

July 1, 2015 - Toyota Motor Corporation, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., and Honda Motor Co., Ltd. have agreed on key details regarding a new joint support project for the development of hydrogen station infrastructure in Japan. In addition to partially covering the operating costs of hydrogen stations, the three automakers have also agreed to help infrastructure companies deliver the best possible customer service and create a convenient, hassle-free refueling network for owners of fuel cell vehicles (FCVs).

The joint project (conducted alongside the Japanese government’s support for hydrogen stations) will partially cover hydrogen station operating expenses incurred by infrastructure companies, and was first announced on February 12. Furthermore project partners will jointly raise awareness regarding these support measures, in order to encourage new companies to enter the hydrogen supply business. Financial assistance will be provided through the Research Association of Hydrogen Supply/Utilization Technology* (HySUT), which is setting up a project to stimulate demand for FCVs.
