For that matter, does Gen 5 still have two cats like the earlier gens?

I'm guessing that the answer is yes, and you just can't easily see the front one, in that photo.

Am I seeing that they've done away with the heat recovery system?

The exhaust pre-heater provides early heat for the cabin heater. Gen 2 used a thermos to store residual heat. It could be that Gen 5 uses a more expensive and complicated unit like the heat pump in EV's like on the Prime.

The wire harness/voltage sensor harness is looking pretty original. Do you guys remove it, and the ecu, to inspect the ecu socket and harness plug, clean or replace the busbars? or maybe just install a new harness?
Looks like the original harness was disconnected from the OEM modules, moved out of the way and is going to be reconnected "as-is" to the new modules....New harnesses are cheap ($65ish?) for the peace of mind they provide.

All of the above which includes using the original harness. From our last talk with our Toyota Parts Rep, you can no longer order the new harness through Toyota So we had to clean each busbar in a solution with our Ultra Sonic Cleaner - which came out Great!

I haven't ordered any recently (still have 5 or 6 in the shop), so I'm not up to date on whether or not availability has changed. They're still showing good for now, though.

    The sensor harness:

    The main cable (-):

    The short cable (+)
    G9242-47100 - Toyota Parts Deal

And this is the safety plug cables. It's kind of funny because they have a photo of a steering wheel clock spring, along with the older black and white low-quality drawing of the cable.

If anyone happens to live close to our shop in SoCal, you are welcome to stop by if you need OEM Toyota parts to help finish your Headgaket / EGR project. Since we do so many of these we have an ample supply of bolts, gaskets, O rings, clean EGR coolers and intake manifolds.

Just got done with a rebuilt Gen 4 Prius waiting for its new home. We can prep the engine for Gen 3 conversion which includes the minor modifications for plug and play! Temp Harness extender included!
