Hybrid owners beware: Thieves taking stickers

I wasn't able to get a car pool sticker before the limit but I score the annual registration sticker so if someone tries to remove it, it will come apart in small pieces. Making it too much of a burden to try placing it on another license plate.

You should also remove prior year registration stickers or having those extra layers of dried out stickers will make pulling off the latest one that much easier for someone to steal.

Having a picture of your car with the car pool stickers is also a good idea as well as having DMV documentation showing you are registered to have stickers.

if I am selling my prius and the buyer wants to see some proof of authenticity of my stickers, what should I show them?

 

You received a certificat with the serial numbers of the stickers you are supposed to keep with your car registration. You can show them that.

Sucks that you guys have stickers... at least AZ is doing something right. We have unique blue license plates that allow us to drive in the HOV lane. They only issued 10,000 of them for Hybrids. Vehicles that run on Propane also have the same plate. I haven't heard of anyone attempting to steal the plate and put it on another car. Then again, running a stolen plate is a major offense and I doubt someone would attempt to buy a stolen plate off ebay. A stolen plate is a lot different than a stolen sticker. Granted, we don't have quite as much traffic congestion as L.A.... so I'm sure that has something to do with it as well.
