Toyota doesn't bother with "soon". Everything they have done up to this point has always been with long-term success in mind. That nasty misinformation and the fad belief won't exist a few years from now.

I was actively supporting Prius 7 years ago. Let me tell you, much has changed since then. Many of the intention predictions have been right on the money, like how Camry-Hybrid was introduced. Waiting for the challenging solution really paid off. I feel quite vindicated.

    How's the phase-out of gas-only any different?

Based on my eye-witness experience, all looks right on schedule for that. 5 years from now when the next generation Camry should come, the hybrid market would likely have moved quite a bit forward. There's certainly enough (political, economic, and environmental) pressure building to support the effort.

As for pricing, the market is coming to a consensus that paying for the hybrid option is worth it. The question being asked more often now is: "How much?" GM certainly believes this, as proven with their promotion for GreenLine. Think of it as expecting to get an automatic transmission for free. After decades of being available, the manual transmission is still less expensive. People pay the extra anyway. They understand the benefit that higher price provides.

    Makes sense.

Closer than the price difference between two petrol engine choices then? e.g. btwn a V6 and I4 or V6 and V8. IOW, sorta how the GS450h is currently priced. In Canada, it comes as a loaded model. The MSRP is higher than a base V8 but definitely lower than a loaded GS430 (which will have identical equipment).

This begs the question. Why buy the GS430 when the GS450h is cheaper to buy, more powerful (339hp vs 300hp), more fuel efficient and quicker to 60. (This argument will change when the GS460 comes out)
