HV Battery Failing

    The usual recommendation from people who have done it is to get two Gen II batteries and pick the best 38 cells. I've never done it personally, but it makes sense. If you get another Gen I battery, you're likely to just have another failure shortly down the road (if you get it working at all, since you indicate the potential replacement already has issues).

    Neither choice is acceptable. You'll need to purchase two 2G traction batteries so that you'll have 56 modules in hand, and can select 38 to populate the Classic battery case.

    baiscally, I wouldnt mind buying 2 2g batterys, but I have only access to one at the moment! (would the battery HV ecu be the same? as classic)

    Even the classic battery, I would have thought it may have some dead cells, BUT for an extra Battery HV ecu, & sensors bars etc.. incase mines are gone (Again are these sensor bars interchangeable from the 2g batterys?)

    but for that price can I really go wrong, Because my prius does have main system relay malfunction as one of the error codes..

    Maybe I can get one to work now & Build one as a spare?

    Whith the amount of info on here, I would have thought that was possible? Espcailly with the help from you Guys (& Girls)!

    I bought this car as a Cheap runnabout BUT its been a Project on standstill because of the amount of parts available, to make the car an economical repair....

    I will post up with all of the error codes in a bit... (they are not at hand)

    Also another quick question, I have been trying to use my t69 quicklynx Scanner / code reader to find out info on the main HV battery, like min & max voltage at the Cell number etc, But the information is not available, am I doing something wrong? Or is it Only Special scanners that can do this? mine can read live data & some info on the HV system as it shows up as an extra engine in the menu...

    Hello Dave,
    There was a battery recall awhile ago for leaking battery terminals.
    You might wanna think to take it to your dealer and have them look,
    because if it is a leak, they will replace it with a new battery.

    It would be surprising if you could get your code reader to read Prius DTC produced by ECUs besides the engine ECU.

    The 2G traction battery ECU and busbars are different so they cannot be used with the Classic traction battery. (Mostly because 2G has 14 module pairs vs. 19 Classic module pairs.)

    I suppose you could buy the Classic battery and try to swap in good modules, as long as you don't have high expectations that the remaining modules will have much life left.

    If the main system relays are bad, that does imply substantial electrolyte leakage.

    Dear Patrick Wong, Thank you very much for your help..

    May I say, I am in the process of picking up the 2G battery tommorow, Still on the lookout for an extra 10 cells, Or an extra battery whatever comes 1st...

    I am also looking to buy the original classic battery, Even if the condition is Questionable, Because I may needs some parts like the Bus bar / sensor bars / Hv battery ecu anyway respectfully, & believe it may help me get my prius on the road faster...

    I can always get ridd of the extra parts once mine is working? Or prepare it for Recycling even if its not any good...

    Once bought I shall create my own thread... thanks again..

    I did take the battery apart, and there were no terminal leak issues.

    I started up the car the other night (after sitting in a parking lot all day while I was at work) and was presented with
    Big Red Triangle w/ a ! in the middle, Check Engine Light, VSC, and (!) all lit up. The manual seemed to say I could drive it, but to take it in for service. While driving I didn't notice the charge of the battery changing rapidly and getting full green while driving around on side roads (I never get that unless I am going down a long hill).

    Took it to the dealer and after 5 days, I got my baby back. The Tech contacted the Field Service Rep. They replaced my Battery Assembly (G9510-47031) and transferred over the Hybrid Vehicle Control Computer (I guess that is attached to the battery)

    How long is the warranty on the battery pack? And how much do they cost these days (with labor)?
