Glad it worked out well for you. My local Ace refused to cut the key because it wasn't their blank!

Thanks for the clarification. I'll order the key soon, program it and hope to do the chicken dance too!

This is great! Amazon sells the fob for $120 and free shipping.

I am hung up on step 7 of part B:
"7. Without pressing the brake, press power button, wait a second, press it again, wait a second, press it a third time to turn car back off."

Hmm... I press it once, the car comes on. I press it again, the car goes off. I press it a third time, the car comes ON again, it does not "turn back off."
Could one of you successful folks please explain? Does "press" mean "turn on and off"? Or do I begin with the car ON? Or have I completely missed something?

    Thanks!

Do you have your foot on the brake? You shouldn't. Without your foot on the brake one press puts it in accessory mode where the radio will work and two presses puts it in ignition on but does not start the hybrid system (engine). The third press turns it off.

I just programmed two new sks fobs for a 2007 prius. Step 9b (holding lock & unlock on the NEW fob) definitely has to be done twice to get the lock cycle acknowledgement. Then, after pressing the lock button after a few seconds, wait a bit over a minute and listen for a pre warm up sound from the engine. Soon after that we heard a clicking sound in the dashboard. I believe that was the signal to tell us programming was complete. Worked great! Thanks for helping us save a load of money not having to go to the dealer for this!

Ok I just got my new non-smart fob. I did procedure A and it work good with no issues.

Proceeding to Procedure C I did not have luck. I cant get past step #8, as I only get one lock/unlock, and not two. I get no results on steps 10-12.
Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

Replace the battery in your old/original fob and try it again. Also, complete step 10 two times before proceeding to step 11.

I had just put in a new battery two weeks back when I purchased the car so I should be ok.

Idk then, unfortunately, non smart key fob programming is not my forte as I have never actually done it but there are others out there that have and have used this procedure. All I can say is search the net for all the procedures you can find and look for subtle differences. Trying them should hurt nothing.

Pls do let us know what finally works for you so we can make this thread more fool proof and accurate.

Sorry your having trouble. The only other thing I can think of is your car already has four fobs assigned to it (the max). I deem that unlikely but nevertheless, a possibility.

It could be maxed out of fobs. It's a ex state fleet vehicle. So can toyota check to see how many fobs are assigned to the car? I will keep you posted on my results.

I don't know but, there is a procedure to delete all fobs except the "master" (which is the one being used during the procedure). Let me see if I can find that for you.

    Here it is.

Has anyone had luck deleting old fobs with this? I would hate to loose all fobs and have to get a tow into Toyota.

So chalk another one up in the success column on a Gen II 2008 Prius. This whole thing was really very painless, though I did have to do the procedure a couple of times to get everything right.

Like alot of people here I got my replacement SKS fob from Amazon. The seller was technically a Toyota dealer somewhere up in north Florida and the fob was new and labeled with all right part number. Yes, the replacement was $120, but that's way better than the summarily offensive $400 that my local dealer wanted to charge.

I replaced the batteries in both the old and the new fob just to avoid that pitfall.

I did have to perform step 9b a couple of times. Actually technically, based on how the whole system was behaving, I think that it probably worked the first time, but I was just being impatient. The car seemed to need a full minute to respond to the new fob and honestly a full minute is longer than I thought it was.

I remain very surprised at how fragile the Prius fobs are. I still have both of the fobs that I got new with the car. Both have, in six years time suffered failures that leave me uncomfortable carrying them around. They still function, but buttons have fallen off and the rubber protecting the lock and unlock bottons has deteriorated. Given that I just carry these things on a simple key ring in my pocket, I'm kinda wondering what happened. I did get a leather case for the new one to avoid this in the future, but I hope Toyota has figured out what the problem is an fixed it.

I'm a week into the prius life and couldn't be happier now that I have 2 working silver fobs. Usnavystgc, your efforts to hone these steps is remarkable. I followed them exactly and after speeding up my actions it worked perfectly for my 2008. I'm sure you're off investigated other dealer workaroumds but I wanted you to know this one lives on. Much appreciation!

Another successful SKS programming. Thanks to all that contributed!

I bought a silver back Prius key from Amazon. I was able to program the Procedure A
I could not program the Procedure B correctly.

The Fob was brand new from a Toyota dealer. I did find the battery low so I replaced it.
I tied every permutation of the chicken dance I could find and nothing worked. A clue to me was the Prius never acknowledged any response or the new fob, but always did a lock/unlock when I pressed the lock key on the old fob.

I was too much in a hurry to get a good fob working since there is always a chance to losing the dern thing.

My Prius is a 2004 without SKS. Of course I didn't know this when I bought the silver back fob. My original is the black back fob. It starts the car, locks, unlocks & blows the horn w/ panic button.

I found it very confusing to decifer the posts I read as to what was really going on with someones fob since they always never stated the full condition of the vehicle, leaving out some information.

When stating a problem, always document what you actually have, what the problem is and what you have done to try and fix it.

My problem I saw was that no one stated if their car had SKS or not, or if the were adding a new silver back fob with another new silver back fob. So many combinations.

I decided to take the Prius to a dealer. I chose Warren Toyota north of Detroit since we were going to a Tigers ball game that evening.

I explained them my problem and they agreed to try to fix it with only a $50 charge. ( fixed or not)

They ran the car out side to another garage to work on it. After an hour in the customers room I went back to the head tech to see what they found out.

It turned out that the two fobs had different hardware sets for the SKS functions and couldn't activate the new fob to work with the old fob's signals.

I will now use this new fob for a backup start key. I'll hide the metal key in a hidakey box and plant the fob inside.

I don't know if SKS cars come with only a silver back fob or did they also have a black back fob.

Anyway, according to Toyota you can't program the lock, unlock keys to a silver back fob from a nonSKS car with black back fob.

P.S. Don't drive a Prius, or any other car through water. Exception, a Jeep with snorkels! They had a big number of cars ( over 1000 flooded in Detroit) many with damaged engines due to the flooding on 8-12-2014. While I was leaving the tech called up a customer and told him his engine had a bent rod destroying the engine!

I never reported on my success with the programming. I was able to program my silver key on the first try thanks to these instructions. I typed up a simplified, one page bullet list that I could print and take to the car. I've attached it here in the hopes that it might help someone else. I'd suggest reading the full explanation in the first post and making sure you understand it before using the simplified version

Thanks to those who've had a hand in figuring this out.
