I checked in 2014 and my SKS was working by the end of my thread. Here we are in 2017 and something has happened to BOTH of my remotes. They are both silver logo fobs, but right now neither one will open the door by touching the door neither one will start the car unless a fob is in the slot.
Am I out of luck? It says to use the "old" (working) and the "new" (to be programmed) remotes. But I don't have one that the SKS works. Any hints? I am willing to do it numerous times. I got all the way through all the steps (including 9a., 9b., and 9c.) but when I got out of the car, it didn't work. Also, is there any hints about what lights will go on on the dashboard while this it taking place?
I recently had the car at the body shop and the keys were not used at all while it awaited repairs. Do you think it became unprogrammed because it was not used for about a month?

You need to replace the CR2032 batteries in the fobs.

No, but you never mentioned whether you checked the SKS on/off switch below the steering wheel, in case someone switched it off while in the shop. If it is on then the battery in the fob is the next step.

Big vote of thanks to: usnavystgc | PriusChat

For future users of Procedure A, follow the tip (that is located somewhere in this thread) to perform the procedure in fairly quick progression, otherwise it doesn't work ... e.g. the anti-theft light won't get to the continuously-on state, or if you get that far and don't plug in the new fob quick enough the anti-theft light never stops flashing

I am selling a 2007 Prius with 2 key fobs.

I own and am keeping a different 2007 Prius with only 1 key fob.

My question is --- can I take one of the key fobs from the one I am selling --- and use it / program it to the one I am keeping so that I have a spare?

You can self program it to start the car in the key slot. If you need sks, you would need to reseed the car and program.

    Yes, it's possible

There's a programming step for the key slot. It's 2 different steps total

The "slot" portion of the key does not have a limit on the number of times you can program it.

    Success!
Ordered a new fob direct from Toyota via Amazon Prime $110 delivered in 2 days. Took longer to read this thread than to program the fob.
I started with one falling apart fob that seem to have intermittent SKS capability. Turns out low battery was at fault for limited SKS function. Then I rehoused the old case with a $14 shell.
I did have to repeat one step (2005) and at the end you gotta be patient! Wait for the system, let it delay.
I tried it once with batteries that I thought had a little juice left in them, didn't work full sks. I then put brand new batteries in both remotes, and boom it was like night and day. Worked first time.
Thank you all, thank you, thank you very much :)

I need to get this done. I live in fear of losing the one fob we have for my wife's 07.

"Have a 2005 Prius with SKS (Silver logo Key). One of my two key fobs stopped working. indicator light would not come on when buttons were pressed. Replacing the battery did not help. Other key working just fine. I surmised one of the keys was dead and needed replacement.

I also have a 2005 with silver fob logo and SKS. Years ago one of my two original fobs SKS functionality stopped working so I purchased a replacement but saved the original. This week one of the two fobs in service also lost SKS functionality. In an attempt to reprogram the fob I tried USNavy's very helpful "Procedure B" but to no avail. I also noticed that the red indicator light on the fob no longer illuminated when the lock or unlock button was pressed. While investigating more closely I determined that the panic button had become wedged resulting it in it being always depressed. With a little jiggling and removal of a crust of pocket lint from the perimeter of the red button it returned to its normal position allowing the alarm to engage when pressed for a few seconds. I've never had occasion to use the panic button and had not tested it before. So now I have a working panic button but the real benefit is that all SKS functionality returned to that fob. I checked the original fob that I had retired long ago and found it had the same problem. I freed that button and popped in a new battery and that one is fully functional again! Woohoo!

A down side is that the red button is now less secure so I expect eventually I will discover it has gone missing. I see sellers on Amazon offering aftermarket replacement fob case ($14) and skins (two for $10) so easy remedies are available.

Hope this helps someone save $120 on a replacement and the associated lost time.

Daytona Toyota's prices and everyplace else is up around $150+. I reached out to Daytona Toyota, and they said that Toyota had a big price increase on key fobs.
However, I did find this fob that comes without the key for $111 + $7 shipping, and I can confirm it worked flawlessly. I ordered a key slow boat from China for $2 to fit into the fob.

This technique is brilliant! Thank you! How did you ever discover this? It worked like a charm. Had to repeat steps 9 2X but worked! Thank you

Another success story here. Directions are very clear and I got it right on the first try!
