Please let me know how this turns out and what you ultimately had to do to get it to work. All the data I can get helps to improve the process.

Well, to make a long story shorter, I decided to call Pop-A-Lock because I live in LA. And you know what, the truth is you can get it all done by them for pretty much the same price. I had a black logo fob and perhaps it really does not like matching up with the Gen II 2007 Prius, the Pop-A-Lock guy said this is the hardest generation to reprogram.

So I returned the fob I bought on Amazon for $101 and made an appointment with Devin in Torrence and he sold me a used silver logo fob ($65) and reprogrammed it on the spot for another $65.

I was amazed how long it was for the gadget to complete the job, almost 30 minutes of waiting. But, it was so worth it in my case.

Now I see why yours didn't work. Previously you stated you bought a brand new fob from Ebay from a dealer??? Also you never stated it was a black logo fob. In order to execute the programming for black logo fobs, you must use procedure C. Black logo fobs are for cars without SKS (very few 2007's).

I used Google to find that cheaper dealer.
I needed a black logo key. I have an 2004 non SKS key Prius and I tried my Mini VCS OBDII on the key but it didn't program it. (Ver 8 software.)
I tried the chicken dance and that worked perfectly.

Last year I bought an SKS silver logo key by mistake and it would not program the on/lock functions. I tried with a dealer and came up with "different electronics configuration" They were nice to me, didn't charge me the agreed upon $50 and even washed my car! Now it is my emergency key with a hida key device.
I think the opposite configuration (Non SKS key with an SKS key car) would not work either.

thanks, programming worked like a charm. programmed a new fob using your instructions. notes: i had to press unlock and lock twice on the new fob in step 9b. didn't get any confirmation in step 9c.

Success. Have a 2005 Prius with SKS (Silver logo Key). One of my two key fobs stopped working. indicator light would not come on when buttons were pressed. Replacing the battery did not help. Other key working just fine. I surmised one of the keys was dead and needed replacement.

I bought a new key off Amazon which came from Daytona Toyota for about $118 (
PRIUS '04-'09 Toyota Prox Remote With Smart Entry System (Factory Original - NEW))

Did the procedure A and B and tested and new key working fine within 15 minutes. Printed out the procedure and did it by myself. Only problem area was in PROCEDURE B part 9c where the lock key on the new fob didn't work. I back tracked to 9a and it worked the second time around (this was all done quickly within a minute).

    Thanks!

We also had a successful experience doing the chicken dance with a new SKS fob purchased from Daytona Toyota via Amazon for $117 . But I will say, if it doesn't work the first time, try, try again. We had to do part A three times before it worked. We could not get the red light on the dash to stop flashing. My husband figured out that we needed to insert and remove the old key fob from the slot more quickly. We thought we had been doing it quickly enough but it turns out you really need to hustle In-N-Out . Part B on the other hand worked like a charm the first time we did it. The feeling when we realized that we had full functionality was beyond words. We are thrilled and very grateful to you for posting these amazing instructions!

It is great to hear so many success stories. Thank you all for posting. Every experience is important and the data collected has brought us to this point. I love it. Let's keep the data coming in. :)

    Hi all!
We have a 2012 Prius v (bought new) that has only the drive door that can open when touched (is this SKS?)

We lost one of the two smart key fobs recently, might be burried u see 6 ft of snow.

    My questions:
    1) Does anyone ship to Canada or does anyone know where I can get one for comparable prices that have been quoted here?

    2) Will the procedures described here for this car?

    3) where can I find the exact part number? Is it different for Canadian cars?

When I asked the dealers here, they said something about having to see if the one we still have is the 'master?' Does that make any sense to anyone?

Thank you in advance! It's been frustrating to have just one fob and the thought of paying $400cdn is kind of sickening...

I just did this procedure and it worked great! I did a dry run with each step and that helped me not screw up when it mattered. Got it to work on the first try. I had to do the lock/unlock on the new FOB twice to get it to notice.

One suggestion would be to bold the parts of the steps with the specific ACTION, so that it is easier to go through it and keep track of which step you're on as you are going through it. For instance:

9b: Press both the Lock and Unlock key (simultaneously) on the NEW fob. Hold for about 1.5 seconds (several users have reported it being necessary to execute this step twice, if your first go around does not indicate success, try it again and execute this step twice. Please post what worked in the comments below).
9c: Within three seconds, press the lock key on the NEW fob. If successful the lock/unlock will cycle once indicating success (It may take a while for the lock/unlock cycle. I've seen it happen just as I was ready to say, "well, it didn't work". If you wait for a long time (a long time being more than a minute) and get no cycle at all, complete step 10. and test to see if the SKS functions of your new fob work. If they do, pls report that on this thread).

Fortunately I haven't had to do this yet, but great to know that the information is here when I'll no doubt have to do it. I do have one question though... I recently bought a 2009 Touring with the silver logo fobs (I made sure it had both before I bought it)... Occasionally one of the FOB's will lose functionality even with brand new batteries... In order to get it working again I have to press the valet switch twice... Any suggestions? Is this common?

My first post here. I have a 2008 Prius, and I just bought a new fob. (both of my FOB are silver logo fobs)

Okee dokee. I screwed up the chicken dance. Now my old FOB is screwed up, and the new FOB has limited functionality.

1st, after screwing up the chicken dance, the old fob will no longer let me open/unlock/lock the car by touching the handle, but it will let me unlock/lock the door with the fob unlock/lock button. It also will not allow me to start the car without the fob in the fob-key-ignition-hole-thing. I do not have a cell phone on my person or nearby. The battery is fine, and it's been recently replaced. The "key" button under the steering will is in the "enabled" position. (Please don't tell me to replace battery or depress the "key" button).

2nd, after programming the new fob in the first step successfully, the new fob will not unlock the car in anyway, but it will work to start the car in the fob-key-ignition-hole thing. Tried chicken dance, but no worky. I'm sure I screwed it up, but my main concern is what happened to the old fob.

Anyone have any possible remedies... besides batteries and checking the "key" button below the steering wheel?

    Thanks.

I would start by doing the chicken dance again, get the new key working (and make sure you do the correct procedures... if you have SKS then you skip one of the procedures).

There's a SKS button under the steering wheel of your car, by your knee, you must have accidentally turned off your SKS functions. Turn it back on and yourOLD key should work again.

JC91006. You obviously didn't read my post. I said that button was in the proper position.

If that's the case, the battery on the fob needs changing/checking. While you're checking batteries, check that your 12v battery is in good health.

I've done dozens of these fobs for people and have never been able to screw up the old fob.......but I guess anything can happen.

In the case of your new fob, there is 2 step programming, the 1st step is probably completely. You need to do the 2nd step again for sks functions.

Since the buttons on the old fob is still working, you can still do the chicken dance to program the 2nd Fob. Once that's programmed correctly, you'll know if there is something wrong with your old Fob......if the 2nd Fob works correctly.

All batteries are fine. As mentioned in my post. 12v was replaced last year, and it's fine.

Tried the corrected dance like you said. No go.

    Thanks.
