amazingly though, someone out there recently called around for new battery pricing, and it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be.

To be honest I like the - if it ain't broke don't fix it - approach on the HV Batt.
I am confused if are talking a bad batt or just a concern here.

PS- I think we have 180k miles on ours but that is not the record by any stretch

I talked with a service advisor at my local Toyota dealer today. He said for my Prius, the replacement of the original hybrid battery would cost $3200, $2300 of which being the cost for a new battery and a new filter, and $900 being the labor cost. The warranty would be 3 years with 36K miles.

He said that the original battery usually would last 10-15 years. I can wait until the triangle light and the check engine light are up.

He also said that the lower mileage, the shorter the battery life is. This confirms what I have heard from you guys here. Thanks!

Thank you! I am talking about a concern, preparing myself for the future battery failure.

Thank you! How do I find a reliable person to put in the new battery for me?

Ask other Prius owners in your area who they use?

Sounds like something I've done before, and would consider again :coffee:

Kind of excited about installing a NewPriusBatteries.com product, if not the OEM option.

you're in an expensive area, $2,300. is pretty good for a new battery, $900. a little high for labor

look on line for hybrid shops, ask some local mechanics, garages/gas stations. look for AAA rated or check their website, and look for ASE certified mechanics, there's usually a sign.

With only 70,000 miles on your car, you should not buy anything to recondition the battery. You should buy a newer OEM battery from Toyota. That will give you many years of trouble free driving, just like when you bought the car in 2008
