I don't know a lot about cars, since this Prius is my first car, can you tell me what 40mm represent? And that 7" I'm assuming its the width of the tire?

I'm a heavy footed person, when I speed I drive 85mph+ on freeway, but always on active lookout (front and back) while I speed, I never got a speeding ticket in my 6 years of driving, I call it active driving. When I do passive driving I'm at speed limit, and I don't go with the flow of traffic (in fact I might have caused some bottleneck while doing so  ) but I only do so when I'm tired and don't want to risk getting caught, so I'll just cause some traffic behind me to be slower but I'm always on the right lane, left lane speeders still have their way. Btw, tinting to legal limit doesn't get you caught, I have mine on since two year ago and I never got pull over.

In my life time I got one ticket, a parking ticket...:(

^Nice, in CA you can't have anything more than just a faint UV blocker in the front, it sucks. I used to have a 90 mile drive 4 times per week and was very heavy footed as well so I just try to stay low key. I have quite the driving record before I went to Prius.

    Wheel Offsets - Discount Tire

Think of it this way, the higher the positive offset number the further In the wheel well the wheel will sit. The lower the positive offset number the further the wheel will stick out of the wheel well. OE 15" Prius wheels are 45mm offset and 6" wide. OE 17" Prius wheels are 42mm and 50mm at 7" wide.

Everyone's definition of "cool" varies. That being said, I'm going to assume you're trying to appeal to a early 20s crowd. If that's the case, I would say, tint the glass, 17"-18"racing wheels, lower the suspension (adjustable coil-overs), mood lighting, custom sound system, ground effects, HIDs and LEDs and add some stickers to make your car look like it's sponsored. Also, depending on the color of your Prius, you might want to consider changing the color by custom painting, or vinyl coating and black out the badging.

Is the corollary to this statement, "kick the ugly chick out"?

I think the most dramatic thing to do is get bigger wheels and lower the car. That's a much sportier look.

I have a friend who is into those aftermarket products for the cars like the Honda Civic, etc. I asked what would happen if I put those "racing" stickers onto my Prius that they all put onto their cars. I was told it would not be a good idea (at least in Los Angeles).

i don't know about yours but I think mine looks pretty cool all on it's own. I used to drive a 2001 c5 and I take just as much pride in the cool factor of this car as I did with the vette. Just keep it clean and wax it now and then and you have a dam cool looking ride.

You have a Five so you already have larger wheels. Unfortunately they come with tiny 215/45/17 tires so the wheel well gap is quite large. Even driving down the freeway I can tell a Five from a lower model. The larger wheels help a lot!

    I hate you people. :p
I was perfectly fine with how my car looked until you mentioned the wheel gaps. Now I can't stop starring at them!
Lower is not for me though, too many sloped driveways, don't feel like armoring my bottom side.

The quicker you wear out your tires the quicker you can buy a set of 205/50/17s to reduce the gap and increase ride height. ;)

Speaking of bottom sides, I'm going back to the picture above......
