How to disable the Prius "Artificial Engine" sound?

You've got the car pretty well opened up. Can you trick it into thinking it is rolling along slowly in electric mode? That would turn on the noise and you could just look around until you find it.

 

I would totally be fine with the whurring sound from inside the TARDIS from "Dr. Who".

 

Is this the right part that makes the noise? Toyota part number 86570-47011.

it looks like it, but i'm not positive.

 

I think he was referring to the government mandate starting in 2014. When Toyota put the noisemakers in our 2012 Prii, it was still voluntary, not a federal requirement.

Yes this is the fake engine noise maker, and its not behind the driver side headlight. Its up front left of the Toyota emblem behind the bumper cover.

I had a 2010 Prius and now have a 2015 and wanted my 2015 to be silent like my old one so I unplugged the speaker and taped it off so water does not damage the open plug.

 

You are correct it is moved to the front.

 

In 2012 it was placed behind the driver headlight.

In 2013 it was relocated to in between the horns due to the NHTSA small over lap test where Toyota placed a steel plate in that location to help pass the test.

Do I have a iPhone? Yes I do.

 

On my 2014 Prius v project car it is still mounted behind the driver's headlight. It mus vary from model to model.
