    BrettS,

I keep wanting to ask you what the Zener Diode was for with the rear liftgate mod.

The best I can figure out is that it keeps the unlock signal from the Door Handles/Certification ECU from unlatching the liftgate every time someone opens one of the SKS door handles. (This would be quite irritating!!)
Because it's a Zener Diode, it does allow the unlock signal from the liftgate switch/Main ECU to go to the Certification ECU unlock wire.
Therefore the unlock button on the liftgate would simultaneously open all four doors and the liftgate latch.

Am I correct? Is that how this works?
(Sorry, I'm just one of those people who needs to understand how something works before I do it.)

    Thanks for your response!

That's correct. Without the diode it would unlatch the liftgate whenever you unlocked any of the doors.

I would be happy to add just the rear hatch into the SKS on my V. Would I still have to get to the passenger door wiring?

    BrettS,

    Thanks for verifying that.
Thank you again even for the idea and detailed instructions for this mod!

    jhnidy,

No, you wouldn't need to touch the door.

Coming from a Prius with 3 doors with smart key access, and now driving a Plugin Prius with one door smart key access, I miss it every day, mostly the hatch.

I have a few questions though.
    1. Did anyone do this mod for a Prius plugin?

    2. All plugin version prii have dark silver handle bars (a thing that is typical for the PIP). What is the part number?

    3. Does anyone know where to order the parts in Europe?

    Thanks Brett for your work.

Not the one I have. Pips were sold quite well in the Netherlands in 2013, because off fiscal discounts. They even shipped them from other European countries, because of the demand. Mine came from Norway, and is a simple version (aspiration), with extra's like navigation and leather. However no 3 doors sks. Parking camera also lacks guiding lines (very strange).

we don't have the guidelines either, at least on the base model. hopefully, the approach in this thread will help you add the other two doors. there won't be any north americans converting their pips, because 3 door sks came on both models.

Maybe the USDM PiP SKS passenger door handle and hatch antenna will fit?

Yes. I bet the USDM parts will fit. I also noticed that it is really hard to find a website that sells parts for the european market. The one I found was much more expensive than US based websites for instance. Problem with ordering from a US based website, is they do not ship abroad.
    Any suggestions are welcome.

    Hi BrettS
Sorry if i have not posted properly. This is my first time posting here and also in a forum. First of all i want to thank BrettS for this brilliant post.
I live in Sri lanka and we import the domestic japanese prius. Anyway i have found the parts and started doing it. I located the white colour wires when i remove the thumb screw. My problem are the wires in the certification ECU behind the glove box. PHOTO posted. It is totally different, please help. the wires are totally different and some of the pins don't have wires. If someone can help.....

    1.jpg 2.jpg

removing the driver side door and trying to locate the wires that goes in to the certification ecu will be my only hope. right? then i should couple the wires to them and connect?

Has anybody done this on a 2013 II? It is very tempting to dive in (once it is warmer) but I fear getting the job half done and being unable to figure the rest.

This is an awesome write-up. Nicely done. For those, like me who are electrically challenged... I used carista and made it so that all doors, including the back hatch unlock when I touch the drivers door. The kids think its magic when I have a bag of groceries and I tell them to go touch the handle lol.

Dear Brett and everyone, Thank you so much for the write up. I am following your instructions which have been fabulous but have hit a snag. In the step that has undoing the connector in the headliner to attach a wire to the light green wire, I do not have a light green wire. Attached is a picture of my connector showing the wires. Can anyone tell me which wire or pin I need to tap into? Thank you so much.

Hello All, I think I have figured out a work-around. I went to the junk-yard and looked at a lot of different connectors trying to find one similar to that used on the trunk switch so that I could use it to replace the missing wire. I found that a Gen 2 Prius's dash-light dimmer control plug used the same type of pins that the Gen 3 trunk switch does. After much messing around I figured out how to pull the terminals from the Gen 2 plug and put one in the Gen 3 trunk plug. I checked it out with a multi-meter and it gets continuity when the switch is pressed. I'll wire from here using the same instructions BretsS gave.
