How much you paid for your Prius??

SO physched! Just picked up my standard Prius (seaside pearl on grey interior) with no packages (pretty hard to find!) with an MSRP of $22,994 (including destination and mats which seem to come with every CA car) for $2500 off (i.e. $20494) which is about $700 under invoice.

OTD (including $45 doc fee, 8.5% tax & CA license) was $22,569-$400 recent college grad rebate. At 0%for 24months with $2500 down my payments are still under $850. Purchase experience was great at Downtown Oakland Toyota with my Internet salesperson (but he said not to expect this kind of deal on a normal day, was kind of a end of the month, low sales, special!) The finance guy did try the hard sale on the extended warranty and pre-paid maintenance but backed off once I told him it was under a grand for the 7/100 platinum on here and that no way 5yrs/50K miles of service could cost over $2K as the the prius is fairly low maintenance. I also had to have him re-print out the sales contract after he tried to sneak in a ~$180 theft deterrent charge (not exactly sure what that was going to be about but there was a place for it on the standard CA new car contract). I had called or emailed about 10 dealers in the bay area.

Misc. tips I gathered;
The closest, Fremont Toyota, seemed like total d*cks. I came in asking about priuses, and the sales guy I got knew very little about them. He didn't talk much at all during the test drive and was not too social. Besides they only had 6 or 7 in stock (supposedly the biggest Toy dealer in northern cal?) and most had dealer options like $3,000 leather or a $3,000 moonroof added.... I noticed Piercy in San Jose and Melody on the pennisula and the walnut creek dealers were offering $2500 off but only had package 4 or above in stock. Berkeley Toyota had $2,000 off any in stock, but the Internet sales guy claimed he was the #1 prius dealer in the area but had never seen a base prius at a dealer without packages and that a base 2007 would have no side airbags so I avoided them even though they had lots of HGs (package 2) for $2K off. I got various quotes from a few other bay area dealer (walnut creek again, marin toyota, daly city, dublin) and all seemed similar with $1600-2000 off HGs but less off base models if they had any in stock. Sunnyvale Toyota claimed they would match other deals but the sales guy just laughed when I asked for the $2500 off that other dealers advertised. Personally I think on a package 6 you could probably find places offering a tad over $3K off these days, $2500 is decent for a #5 or #4 and $2K off a #2. Never saw any #1 or #3s here in CA. All had $199 floor mat packages. Only a few dealers had base prius in stock. At all bay area dealers, the Touring model was in low supply and most of the above discounts would not apply.

 

We picked up our new Prius last weekend. Seaside Pearl with Package #6 (included carpet mats at no extra charge) for $27,000. Above that, paid only about $80 in fees, plus tax and registration. 4.9% Toyota financing and absolutely no hassles with the dealer. They even offered me the extended warranty for $925 (6 yr/100K) which is only $50 more than Troy quoted. (I waited anyway because I see no need to shell out that kind of money when I have until 36K miles to do it. Unfortunately, the dealer said he won't be able to offer the discount after the initial sale.)

So far, love this car!

 

Bought a second Pkg#2. Same price 22K. Dealer experience was best I've seen.
Sent email with car I wanted, price 22K, 2005 trade-in with edmunds numbers. Asked just yes or no.
Within 30 minutes I was called. She verified my info. found a dealer trade while we were on the phone.
Said she would have the car next day if I agreed.
I can't believe they got it from Sanger Ca., near Fresno I believe, Seemed like a lot of effort to me. I was in and out in just over an hour.

I just put in an order today for an '07 Touring Magnetic Grey with package #3; the dealer is quoting me $24,872, plus $260 tag/title/fees (and 7% sales tax). Is this a good deal?

Not bad, seems about $1500 below MSRP which is decent for a touring.

 

Another data point: I got my 2007 package #2 prius for $22,330 (not including tax, license, fees). I drove it off the lot for $24,437 (or there 'bouts). I don't know if I got a good deal or not but I'm happy to have the Prius (not to mention finally owning a car that doesn't smell like burning motor oil when I drive it up a hill).

Exactly what I'm paying for my '07 Touring Silver #3. (MSRP 26594, sale price 24875). I think it is a solid deal for this part of the country, better than I thought I could get.

Just need for the weather to subside so the dealer can execute the dealer trade to bring the car here.

 

been shopping around and was offered 22000 on a 07 package #2 + 2000 for my 91 explorer beater. seems like a good deal to me but not to the wife.

It's a company car! Quite enlightened company, that.

I pay a pittance per year for personal use, and everything is paid for under that: the car, gas, insurance, repairs, maintenance, tires, even a rental if it's in the shop for any reason.

The downside: it's a base model. Ah, well; all I need is to plug the sat radio into the stereo, and I'm good.

One can buy a base model with no package at all--especially fleet sales, like where I'm getting mine from.

It's been built, and is at the factory or on the boat right now. Just for me.

No, I can't beat the price. First thing I'm going to do with it is take the family on a little vacation.

 

I just bought a new 2007 Barcelona Red Prius, Package 6, and paid $28000 for it before tax, etc. Sticker was $29550. I'm very happy with it. Yay!

 

I got my 2007 package 5 through Fleet Direct Auto Brokers for about $25,000. He put me in contact with the fleet department of Toyota Rancho Santa Margarita. I really recomment the broker; everything was really easily done over the phone and he gave me the out-the-door cost with no tricks. I only spent about half an hour at the dealership.

With processing free ($289), tax ($808.32), on line system filing fee ($10), dealer's business license fe ($53.33), and title plus transfer fee (since I had my own plates it was $7 transfer plus $10 title) my OTD total was $27,832.65. I financed everything at 2.9% for 60 months since Toytota was offering special promotional financing. I will add mechanical breakdown coverage through my auto insurer (GEICO) in 15 months. While it has a $250 deductible, it is a fraction of the extended service plans offered through Toyota and I can cover the car up to 7 years or 70,000 miles and you can add it anytime up to 15 months or 15,000 miles (whichever comes first).

MSRP is $29,544 and invoice according to KBB is $26,511 but that does not include the advertising fee which brings the invoice to $26,905. I paid about $250 below invoice. This was a few $$ less than the Alexandria Toyota's internet prices but a little more than what Fitzgerald Toyota in MD was offering but since I could easily take the bus to Arlington Toyota (I had sold my previous car private party) I bought from them.

I should note that demand for the Prius has dropped significantly and prices continue to fall even in the one week since I bought my car. Jack Taylor's Alexandria Toyota has now dropped their internet price to $26,380 for an identically equipped model (the fact that they have 77 in stock may have something to do with it). Fitzgerald Toyota in Gaithersburg is about the same but since the processing fee is almost $200 less that's a better bargain. If you live in the Washington DC metro area and you want a Prius this may be the time. The tax credit gets cut in half come April 1 and the financing may not be as good while dealers are selling cars for $500 below invoice. The high volume dealers in particular can give you deals because they have to take more Prius's in order to get hot cars like the Camry hybrid or the Corolla.</div>

 

It seems to be a good time to buy a Prius! The increased production, decreased tax credit and competition from other hybrids is getting dealers to have a bit of stock on hand which means good deals!

My wife and I got one yesterday (3/11/07) with the color we wanted and GPS package for "$500 under invoice" or roughly $2600 under MSRP. No waiting list or anything either (though our closest dealer had to make a trade with a different dealer to get our color).

I think the key is sending a "request a quote" message to every dealer in your area via the Toyota website so they get to competing with each other.

We just got a#2package today at 21500+Tax, Tags..in NoVA.... well is this a good price ??

 

In March 2007 we picked up a brand new 2006 model still on the lot, discounted by $5000. Had them throw in a set of winter tires, wheels and hubcaps for free. After GST/PST it came to 31,400CAD.

Now I've got to go get my $4000 in government subsidies... uh... I mean 'incentives'!

I am new to this chat, and about to buy a new Prius. and I got a quote from City Toyota in Daly City for the 2007 Prius with package 2 for #24,970.48 out the door -- including tax and license. Base price was $22,730. This was in response to a AAA buying program.

The rep there was very nice. He was courteous, and not a pushy seller.

He also said he would put in the Toyota security alarm system for $395.00, because that was all I wanted from Package 4.

Does this seem like a decent deal?
