How much it cost to charge 2017 Prius Prime at home?

I live in Northern Virginia and according to the electric company:

Residential electricity rates in Virginia average 11.08¢/kWh, which ranks the state 30th in the nation. The average residential electricity rate of 11.08¢/kWh in VA is 6.73% less than the national average residential rate of 11.88¢/kWh

Math: 6.7kWh x 11.08 = 74.236 cents to fully charge the EV portion of the battery pack.

 

I pay 6c/kW here after 11pm $.036 to charge the batt. So to answer the posters question: don't listen to "people " do the math

 

Umm, $.036 for a full charge??? Did you do your math or you just listen to "people"? Sorry, really didn't mean to be an smart aleck, but couldn't resist on this one. LOL

 

Oh typo while tired. Sry. I signedned up for TECO Energy Planner which varies my rates by demand. I have a graph so I know when to lay off w the household A/C units. Price drops at night. I could charge that Prius for a third of a buck. (How's that lol)

 

6.4c/kWh is fantastic. Even your "High" price of 15.3c/kWh is 30% less than what I pay at 21c/kWh year around 24/7. BUT... what is that 47.8c/kWh!

 

Canadian numbers. Costco gas is $0.879 / litre, 1.8 litres / 100 Km therefore costs $1.58 for 100 Km. My January electricity cost was 0.198275 / kWh so 7.04 Kw (8.8*80%) costs $1.40, seems cheaper until you add in delivery costs etc that the gas company adds on and the number becomes $2.09.

My December costs for electricity would have been $0.57. Knowing your current electricity rate is rather important in determining what mode to run the vehicle

 

That's during a surge. My settings are "off" if there is a surge in demand. 57c/kW is ABSURD! we use central AC year round. I have used upto 3600kW/m. My bill would be $2k/month!

 

That 57 cents is very close to what we paid 25/7 year round in our nine years living in Honduras. It was about 50 cents there. Keeping our 800 square foot house at 81F was usually about $400//month.

Duke Energy is now starting to offer rates by demand, but they don't look as attractive as what you're getting from TECO.
