How much electric distance are the Primes getting?

I have not been looking. I am making the rash assumption that most of the older gauges will work with the Prime. If that is the case, a good overview should be possible using the factory gauges and the OBD reader.

 

I got my range up to 35 miles now from 33 miles on my earlier post!!

Sounds like you and I have similar driving habits... I'm retired (no daily commute), and EXCEPT for the occasional lengthy road trip (100 miles or more each way) I rarely drive more than 500 miles per month. It sure will be nice if I achieve similar "stats" when we get our Prime / Premium! We "special ordered" it on the 1st of May and *might* get it by the end of September....

I drive 19 miles of EVto work today... and still had 52% battery remaining.

That's a rating of 6.4 miles/kWh.

 

I could never, ever get that high on my way to work, especially since it's a 700 foot climb. Usually around 3.6 to work and about 5.4 round-trip.

 

I dare say they are aware of this being an EV range estimate of their next / future EV-only driving event, but it IS based, as you say, "on recent experience", and chances are very good that IF this "range might be" number is going up over time, then their EV-only driving range from PAST driving events has been steadily improving.

Easley, SC, is way more easy to figure out than "SACTO"....

My EVs ideal range has been in about 90 degree weather no climate control use. Above that it starts going down.

We will see if the Prime is similar

 

Is this graph saying: your getting 35mpg? In either mode, or blended 35 mpg is not representative of what the car really does? I can start off in blended mode and in 6 miles or less the car is showing 6o mpg or more.
Am I missing something. This has been my experience since December. Weather has been rainy and miserable for 5 months. That's CA miserable not NJ miserable.

 

The chart is showing my actual EV miles achieved not mpg and the average temp for that day.

If I only got 35 mpg in my Prime, I would ban myself from PC, sell my Prime and buy a horse to see how many miles I can get out of a bale of hay.

Updating my experience... I am currently getting on average about 29-30 miles per charge. This includes some hills which as you probably know eat up a lot of EV mileage! This is at temperatures of about 55-65 F and I try to keep the HVAC system off unless needed for defrosting or cooling.

I'm still on my 2nd tank of gas after 5 months! Haven't done many long trips (yet). First gas tank fill up was at 2 months at >300 MPGe (don't have exact mileage) and 2nd tank is at a little less than 1/2 full after another 2 months. Hoping to go at least 3 months on this tank! Need to remember to reset a trip meter after next fill-up...

 

With 5,000 miles on my Premium edition, I'm generally getting about 32 miles per charge (40° - 70° temp). It seems that Toyota computes estimated range based on prior experience - not sure whether a week, a month or how long. The computed ranges are pretty accurate (+/- 10%).

 

I'm up to 36 EV miles. Been at this for awhile. Not sure if I'm going to see 37 or not. If I do, i will update!

Had a weird thing happen today. When I got to work I had 2.7 EV miles left. Then when it ran out it, I only went 1.7 miles. Usually, I get the same EV miles as what I started with, within a .1 or .2 when I leave work. It was all 25 mph or lower, very slow starts, no traffic. The temp was 73° 23 mph winds (which at that speed, won't affect it). That was a big difference. Anyone else experience this?

 

Not Prime specific but on other PHEVs I've had low EV miles go away altogether after shutting the car off then back on.

I'm told the lost miles end up as apart of the hybrid buffer.

Also small changes in temperature or weather can make big differences in range, rain or wind can easily grab 10 or 20%, even at slow speeds.

 

Remember that when talking about the hybrid buffer and the estimated EV range, that is all just bookkeeping in the software. There is just the big traction battery with a specific state of charge, and various (sophisticated) software algorithms to manage it and report it in "useful" ways. The only other battery in the picture is the 12V auxiliary battery used to boot up the hybrid system and operate accessories when the hybrid system is not on.

 

I am getting about 30. It is kind of ironic the mileage goes up when the freeway is jammed stop and go and speeds are 25 mph.
I guess would rather go 75 mph the whole way and get 25 miles per charge.
