How many prime owners have invested in a L2 Charging station at home?

    In my case the local utility paid for my charger, and the installation was relatively cheap, knew a guy who knew a guy... So it was a no brainer for the convenience. After getting the Bolt though, it's much more convenient. I also ended up with an L2 being installed at my office by my boss. They got the M-B plug-in ( a big 14 miles of range! but more important for them was the HOV stickers).

    - You have a Prime and run out of battery mid-day and need it charged in 2 hours instead of 5 to go out again - rare example
    This is not cost efficient but it's nice when you can do this.

    Even our pretty decent L2 charger incentive (half of the install, half off the charger) I've just been charging my car L1 overnight.
    Even though someone pointed out its futureproofing my house, by the time I get my next prob full elec car they will have newer cars chargers I know I will want ;)

    I am still undecided, I’d like the convenience of an L2, I may just start with L1, and see how that goes to start. If / when I take the Prius plunge

    I have a L2 charger and solar and charge multiple times a day. If I didn't have solar, I would only charge once a day and the L1 charger would have been fine. I'm not sure the L2 charger and electrical outlet (total cost about $800) will ever pay for itself though. Wishing the Prime had more EV range.

    Just be happy you don’t have a PIP, EV range is partly why I have a Volt but I’ve
    Always hoped the diy community would finish the 2000 Honda Insight PHEV lithium and one way clutch conversion.

    My guess (from Insight EV conversions) is that a plug in Honda would hover around 160wt/hr a mile which would give 44 miles range at 65mph on an 8kwhr battery.

    Too bad no one will buy a small efficient vehicle.

    Got a L2 openevse kit i assembled myself. It works great with wifi, timer, amp control and it sends info to emoncms website ... Can follow everything. Some days we charge several times so it s very usefull to have the 240v option.

    DWP, Like i said, not a fair comparison in my case. I was quoted about $650, mine came in way under that. To be honest, I thought that was a rip! the run was only about 3 ft from the Panel, and I had plenty of open spots for the breaker. Once the actual installer came he was done in about an hour, I basically paid for his hourly rate, since parts were not that much for such a short run. Think the breaker was the most expensive thing.

    A possible advantage of L2 is preconditioning the cars heater / aircon . L1 probably doesn’t provide enough power to both charge and precondition at the same time.

    I've found preheating to be helpful, seems to make a difference between not making it home at the end of the day without using gas and a total EV commute (20 mile daily commute). I didnt expect cabin heating to use much power but it's been noticeable even though the temps have been fairly mild, high 30's in the morning.

    It will use a lot of you have temperature set high. For us here in Minnesota, 65 is plenty most of the time. That's a light load on the battery. (Use the heated seat to supplement too.)

    I have a few question. How much is your time worth per hour? Would you wait for your car to charge before you go somewhere?

    My current value of my time is $150 plus an hour since that is what i change my clients.

    We have about $300 ( From Costco ) in the JuiceBox 40. Normally $500
    - $125 in wiring and breakers ( 50 AMP )
    - $100 for an electrician to assist me on the install

    So $525.00 for a L2 charger installed.

    So less than 3.5 times my $150 per hour rate.
    BTW: I have a large solar array. Cost of power is fixed for the next 30 years for me.
    instead of generating large credits with the power company I use what I need and have

    But your costs may vary.

    Well, I don't get paid when I am sleep at night. Nightly charge on L1 works for me. ;)

    When I had the PiP, I bought an L2 charger to keep up as much EV driving as I could, with its limited range. Since I already had a 220 outlet in the garage, adding it was no problem.
