How many miles of EV should I get?

I'm in PA and I hit a low estimate of 9.3 miles during the winter. Now that it's starting to warm up, it has risen to 10.0. I've never seen an estimate higher than 13.2 but I live in a hilly area so I don't expect to see that. I do a lot of short trips that don't use all of my EV range, but recently I had the chance to do a whole leg of a trip on EV. With my 10.0 estimate, I went 11.4 miles and still had .3 left when I reached my destination.

I doubt MD temperatures are that different from PA, so you should see your estimate go up as it warms up.

Display read 14.4 this morning near Sacramento. When the car was new (800 miles ago) it read 13.1

Looking good! With summer coming you will be up to 16.5 on your display in no time! :)

I'm not sure it has much to do with temperature. I believe it has more to do with how you use the EV miles. We've had the car for 5 weeks and the morning temperature has been in the high 40s and low 50s all that time. That's when I almost always take a trip that uses about 2/3 of the SOC.

Since I live on a hill and always use the ICE to come back up the hill I get very good EV miles for nearly every trip. My guess is the software looks at the EV miles/kWh to determine what a full SOC should provide. The amount of time the ICE is running is about the same each trip allowing me to go back into EV at the top for the 0.5 miles to home which I why I don't think the minor temperature variation has much to do with it.

I guess I won't really know the full story until I've gone through a full year with pretty much the same types of trips.

It's both and the ratio varies. Take a long gas-only trip. Watch what happens immediately afterward and throughout the next week. The value plummets, then slowly recovers even if the temperature never changes. Unfortunately, we in the north have a huge temperature drop causing a double-whammy. I've seen spikes in the other direction during the summer too.

In short, having a plug takes the YMMV disclaimer to a whole new level.

That makes sense. We may go on a longer (300 mile trip) next week and I'll post here with the results.

Is this thread about the EV guesstimate on the dashboard display, which has only a loose connection to actual miles on EV? And, anyway, the way the PiP is designed, to integrate use of both the ICE and the battery in a optimal way, what is the right number to look at? For example, sometimes the battery will be used in conjunction with the ICE to keep the ICE running more optimally; this cannot be counted as pure EV miles, but it is improving gasoline mileage.

    That's absolutely correct.

HV miles will utilize plug-supplied electricity.

It's too bad so many new owners complaining about the guesstimate don't realize that. Notice how many don't even report their MPG either? Getting fixated on just one number contributes to a lot of unnecessary stuff...

Conversely, I am seeing 10.6 miles displayed in the same climate. My EV miles tend to get used on the freeway in mixed mode (65mph).

That pretty much tells the tale. How you use the EV determines the "prediction" value. End of discussion?

It seems like it. I'll know more once they finish programming the new chargers at my work. Then I'll use EV miles uphill on the freeway then another charge going downhill. Currently I only use it uphill. Sorta. Lol
