Ah, I had no idea about the Japanese import dodginess. But the effect they've had on other imports sounds good: our used cars are still very expensive.

Sorry to hear you're getting our late-model insurance write-offs. If anyone ever crashes into me, I will write some secret note in Kiwi on the bonnet so that everyone knows what it is before it gets sent over there.

As for the chauffeur-driven vineyard thing... It was only for an afternoon! And it was very cheap! If you are ever in Napier, let me know, and I'll give you their contact details - it was really good fun.

They didn't sell it in Australia. It's a shame: it'd be a great car. I nearly bought a normal V60 because their interiors are so lovely, especially the ones with bamboo: I'd have very much been sold on a hybrid.

A quick look on Autotrader.co.uk shows that there are a fair few used ones for sale in Britain, and they don't look to have depreciated as horribly as most cars in Britain do.

 

I drive it for work if that counts. I put more miles on it in a day than i do my own car in a week.

 

Haven't been here for awhile, but I saw this thread. We still have the Prius we bought in August 2004 and I have a 2005 Jetta Wagon TDI I bought in 2011. Gotta say the Jetta handles better than the Prius, but doesn't come close to my "89" Mazda Miata!

 

We've heard a lot of handling improvements are in the 2016 Prius. Don't know if you're close enough to @DianneWhitmire but she has been a Prius-friendly presence here.

I have a 2010 prius II, not two, and a 1997 Dodge ram 2500 for rv towing. Both earn their keep very well.......

 

I had a 94 Miata.
Best car I ever owned.....bar none.

Almost anything handles better than my (work) 2010 G3 including the truck that just emptied the dumpster outside my office.
However (comma!) for a transportation appliance?
There's almost nothing that comes close in terms of dependability and frugality.

My wife and I test drove a TDI wagon....hmmmm....probably in 2012.
We were shopping for what would be her vehicle at the time, and she wanted to drive one.

I was impressed by the (initial!) build quality, interior appointments, acceleration, etc.
It was a really nice car to drive, but like all Volksvagens, it would not have been a good car to OWN.

I live on the redneck riviera, so I see diesel passenger trucks every time I get behind the wheel.
Probably 15% of them are used semi-occasionally in towing or hauling with another 15-percent being represented by the truck-nutz and coal rolling crowd.

The remaining 70-percent baffle me to be honest, because these trucks are expensive, and built to stay that way.....but other than having to deal with the smell, they don't bother me, and I don't bother them.

 

Baffles me too, considering the large displacement and high power output of them eats into fuel savings that could have been had by putting a diesel in the truck, but then these people probably would have been fine with a 1500 class pick up instead of going bigger. With the the 3L in the Ram 1500 and 2.8L in the Colorado, there is hope that we'll see more sensible sized diesel engines to make more sensible sized trucks appealing to that crowd.
