How many 2016 Prii have you seen on the road?

I was picking up stuff at the Toyota dealership parts department, I asked the service guy about the lack of Prius, on the lot or showroom. He said they're coming in just a few at a time, and they've already got customers lined up, waiting on them. A different situation from late 2010 when we were shopping, they were awash in 2010's at the time.

 

The issue in the U.K. Is a 6 MONTH delivery time from order.

 

Here in Nashville the dealerships seem to have a good supply of them. For months now the i have seen them on the road everywhere. A guy down the street was one of the first people to get one when they first came out! Hybrid vehicles are very popular here in Tennessee, and especially here in the capital, Nashville

 

In my small midwestern town, I've seen one other 2016.

 

Two new ones in one day - plus a sort of 3rd (in a dream). Approaching the dealers for my 10,000 mile service yesterday i spotted a grey driving away, and the dealer had a red one. Red not as awesome as i was expecting, but it wasnt sunny. It had silver trim stuck round the fog/drl cluster, they looked cheap after market and not correctly fitted. The silver demo was there too. I then dreamed about when i passed a yellow one in the wilds of North Yorkshire, and i couldnt tell if it was a taxi or a Cartridgesave marketing car. In my dream it was a taxi, but morphed into an Austin Princess - with a full metal (not vinyl) roof. Sat in a Kia Optima plug in hybrid at the neighbouring dealers, that's a handsome car - but £33,000.

 

The Gen 4 Prii seem to be lurking everywhere in my neck of the woods, in London. I see at least 4 or more of them every day, during my 36 mile round trip commute around the A406! Gen 3s are two a penny on the roads. They're everywhere, the grand majority being used as Taxis / Mini Cabs. On Friday, I saw 3 red Gen 2s while driving home. I rarely see red 2nd generation Prii!

The Austin Princess? Now, there's a rare car on the roads today, but I recall seeing that for the first time and considering the body design rather revolutionary for the year. I later fell in love with the Austin Ambassador, and once almost picked an almost immaculate vinyl roofed Vanden Plas version up from an automobile auction for about £400 in 1989 or whereabouts.

For the benefit of other forum members, I have included 2 pictures of the Austin Ambassador, only produced in the U.K. between 1982 - 1983, and never exported for sale abroad.

You can probably see why I fell in love with the Austin Ambassador back in the 80s.

I've been in San Francisco this last week and Prii are everywhere. Still not seeing many gen 4, but tons of other ones. It's like the Prius capitol of the US.

 

Here in left-leaning California, there's about 100-200 Gen4's on the dealer lots in my area. Just sitting there, gathering dust. And the 17's are rolling in...

 

Interesting. I'm sure they could sell more up here.

Maybe I'm being presumptive. As I said, in 2010 they were languishing on the lot (love that expression). Our's had been sitting for 15 months, covered in dust, at the back of a sort-of storage/show shed. There was a dead bird beside it...

Oh dear. Here I showing my age again! Although I remember that princess, I preferred the earlier models far more. They were the poor man's RR in their day and used by British colonial ambassadors around the world.

I was in Los Angeles on Saturday and then headed out to Joshua Tree. Saw only two Gen 4s in 370 miles of driving!

 

That's interesting, I've seen them on the lots of several out here now and on the floor of the Herb Chambers here in Boston.

Someone at my work just bought a Gen 4 same color and options as mine. I already have a tough time finding the Prius some days so I'm sure I'll be trying to open his doors from time to time.
