Fuelly is a website where you upload your mpg each full tank, check out the real world economy of all the members and chat about car and economy stuff - if you like that sort of thing!

    Thanks.
No, actually, I bought my Prius so I won't have to be concerned about gas mileage. Or think about it. Or chart it. Or even look at it! :ROFLMAO: Anything over 40 is all good. :)

(But occasionally I do mention it in a post. Mine just went up 4 mpg since I started using the new Mobil Synergy fuel.)

It's not a money thing - let's face it, if it was about overall budget, buying a £500 30 mpg banger every year will still be cheaper than a £26,000 65 mpg hybrid. Perhaps its a competitive thing, or for the green credentials.
I used to write my mpg down in a little book, now I just do it online - and it works out all sorts of costs and averages.
Perhaps its a weirdo OCD thing for eco drivers - except Fuelly is full of the records of the least efficient vehicles also.
The conversation is pretty decent too.
I'll own my Prius too, but I'm still interested in the REAL (not overly optimistic computer) mpg figures.
This Prius is only a couple of mpg better than the eco diesel I had previously (That cost half the price), so the purchase is more for the love of the car rather than an actual saving at the pumps. Even when I thrashed it, I still got 58 mpg (imp.), 48 of yours?

A $650 car might be more economical in terms of price and fuel economy (assuming we're talking about a 4 cylinder) but will more than likely leave you stuck on the side of the road. Where breakdowns might not be the end of the world for those who have short commutes, but me for instance it's 19 mi / 31 km to work. The cheap beater car might look better on paper but could cost you a lot more if it causes you to lose your job.

My first car was $500, lasted 9 months before it quit. I had to put a switch to turn on the cooling fan because it quit coming on. Also leaked stuff, no AC... Not to mention every cop thought I was a drug dealer because the car was 20 years old at the time and well kind of looked rough lol

I know what you mean! My £500 beaters (and i had many) generally cost another £500 a year in the garage - only one was massively expensive and completely unreliable all the time, and that is the one that made me buy my 1st new car. I delivered pizzas in most of them, so i would say most beaters would prove okay. I also always drove 4 cyl diesels so i got 50 mpg (imp.).
I prefer the pleasure and luxury and technology of the Prius - it is worth the premium!

Really? 4mpg increase! That's amazing. I will have to see if I can locate a mobile 1 near me... Thx.

Edit: there is a mobile near me, I will have to ask if they are using that synergy blend or not! I wonder if that is nation wide for mobile one stations or?

It may just be a coincidence, Blizzard. Or a freak of nature. I don't trust the display MPG too much. It seems to act weird sometimes in my car.

Leasing in the UK doesn't mean your in debt, just that your taking on the equivalent of a long term rental. It can have its benefits, for example a lot of company cars in the UK are leased, this can have tax benefits for the company as well as not worrying about having to sell the car on.

I'm leasing my Prius through a salary sacrifice scheme at work, the scheme means that I make significant savings, with the car costing about the same as my much smaller Yaris including running costs and insurance. At the end of the 3 years I just return it and choose the next one. Overall a lot less hassle and I save money, the same car at full cost would be an additional $4756.

I was hoping to keep my Gen3 like 10 years. Then Gen4 came out, I had to change both winter and summer tires, the 8th year check was coming up.... I got the Gen4 and I am SO happy with it.

So the question is: what will Gen5 bring (when?) and will I be able (or will it make sense) to buy it...
Because I bought my car new, I have to keep it, in theory, the longest as the resale value, although remaining high even here in Germany/EU with all the competition of the Auris Hybrid, will go down fast (19% VAT is lost the moment you drive out of the dealer).

If Gen5 comes out and blows me away like Gen4 did, I think I will have a new Prius in 7 years time :)

I am now at 70,000. Lots invested (hitch, air bags, trailer lighting, in-car inverter, direct-wired power outlets front and back). My thinking now is that I will keep the 2016 to 200,000 or trade out at 100,000, depending on the faults that start to show up on Prius Chat. My unit is a Two, with the older battery technology (a conscious choice to stick with the proven style rather than risk issue with the new style).

BTW, I have had zero issues outside of an auxiliary battery failure at 35900.

I think you accidentally left a word out, you probably meant to say you are "done for now"

Was hoping Prime would have a longer range soonest and side lane anti collision with a 360 camera. Also a front camera would be nice with a SD record option. Other wise I need a slightly larger cargo area especially the hatch.

Also wondering how long my luck will hold out on the reliability of these units. So far they are bullet proof.

This is the first car I've ever had that I like just about everything about it (one exception being not enough adjustment on the steering column) so it may be a keeper.

Not sure. Probably sell it before the hybrid warranty expires. I'm going on 3 years now, and I have a love/hate relationship with thIs Prius. It's great in a few ways, and very disappointing in others.

I've had mine two years and one month. I've used it like a pickup truck, hauling all the lumber, pipes, dirt, and hardware cloth in it to build 9 12' planter beds. They are twelve inches tall. I backed into my garage door with the hatch open. It still looks new and the hatch, although a little loose when it closes still works fine and doesn't leak or rattle. I've never been so hard on a car. I'm very impressed with it.
