Yeah, it's Alcantara - A very high grade fabric.

It's microfibers impregnated with polyurethane resins so it's pretty darn tough and stain resistant.

There should be the fabric care instructions in the files section, if not I'm sure someone has it and can load it up.

I was amused to see a review of a Honda touting how nice the "Alcantara-Like" fabric was, hehe.

Lots of high end autos like Jag and Audi use it and emphasize it as part of their 'luxury' features.

Just another nice touch in the Prius :)

    Color-independent fabric problem

So far the only complaint I have about the fabric is the center console lid. The fabric isn't attached by any staples or sewn or pinned down. It's held in place around most of the perimeter by the plastic underside of the lid that it's attached to. This may work fine around most of it, but not on the front edge where the release button is located. In fact, they hold the fabric in place on the front by a thin, weak line of glue. After having the car for only three months, on the first day it hit 100 degrees here, the fabric came completely undone from the front of the lid. Now, it's pulling out around the rest of it since as the front piece moves around from normal usage.

The dealer ordered a new lid for me, but naturally it's back-ordered. It's been a couple weeks so far and still no parts in. Meanwhile, the console looks like crap and I sincerely hope they find a better way of attaching it.

This just started for me, too. So far, it's only progressed as far as a little separation right at the latch. I've remedied it with a syringe of epoxy, re-tucking the fabric and sticking it down. You're right---it doesn't appear to be a good design.
