Right. My tint is spec-ed to screen out something like 97% of near/mid IR though.

Kinda thinking to actually stop by the manufacturer's office location to see if they can verify the leftover scrap pieces I have from the installation actually is their tint, just to be sure..

Whatever you decide to do, I have a suggestion to add to it. I always wear prescription polarized sunglasses. They are fantastic. I live in a Chicago suburb and in the winter when there is snow on the ground they are great at cutting snow sunglare as well.

The quote you have leaves out part of my post, whether deliberately or not, and changes the meaning. Below is what I wrote. I thought it was clear enough. Was the glass offering any protection? I don't know. What I do know now is that the sun exposure I had for years, starting in my youth, resulted in the skin cancers I've been treated for over the last 30-35 years. Even if the side glass had UV protection years ago, I wasn't taking advantage of it.

"For years I had a habit of driving with my window down in nice weather, sun shining right in on my face and my arm on the door. I would imagine that contributed to many of the skin cancers I've dealt with, whether or not the glass had UV protection".

Your original sentence did a very poor job of conveying what you were trying to say.
The "whether or not the glass had UV protection" just doesn't fit with the rest of the sentence.
I didn't want to start an arguement.
Was just looking for a clarification of what you actually were trying to say; I'm still not sure.

Try reading it in the context of a reply to the post immediately preceding it, and as part of a continuation of the discussion about what protection is offered by auto glass against damaging rays from the sun. I was pointing out how the UV protection, if it even existed, wasn't doing me any good.

The simple solution to the OP's question is:
Only drive North in the morning.
Only drive South in the afternoon. :p

Anyway, here's the (2010) window info:

it looks like a visor extender (of some sort) will do the trick more than 90% of the time for me. instead of spending $10+ on some silly visor extender, i think i'm just going to make my own. it's too bad that PIP doesn't come with the visor that extends when it is flipped to the side. i mean how difficult is it to make this a standard feature on all cars? i know i shouldn't make a direct comparison, but my Q7 comes with double visor that can extend so i can use one for side and for front. i do wear polarized sunglasses, but i just don't like getting the sun directly to my left face for 2 hours everyday.

Most vehicles have a slide-out extension, or the sun-flap slides out, which shades areas not covered. Neither my Toyota Corolla nor the PiP has this. I feel it makes driving more dangerous, particularly when the sun is low in the sky.

I'm considering using pieces of black cardboard, held to the sun-flap with loops of elastic cord, that can slide out as needed.

The solution is to move you home to the north side of town where you work. Then when you drive to work the sun will be on the passenger side and so whaen you drive home.

I use a foldable sunshade that has suction cups that are meant for the side windows. It mostly does the job (just remember to remove it before winding down the window!)

Yeah, but then you'll get the sun from that side. As I see it, OP has only 2 options:

    1) Move in to the office and live at work

    2) Buy a second house on the opposite side of town and alternate days living in each house, so as to get equal UV exposure for both sides of his/her body.

Guys, I don't get it, I posted the solution. No one will ever notice AND it's inexpensive!

Do you really want to drive in the street with this mask on?
Unless you are on the way to the bank.

Honestly, if I saw someone driving down the street with that thing on, I'd be more than a little concerned. It would be entertaining I suppose, if you were the one doing it.
The only thing better, (or worse, depending on your perspective) would be your passengers doing the same.

I never use sun-block. It causes serious vitamin D deficiencies.

I tried that, but it makes the window whistle when it's rolled up, and I always forget to take it off when I roll the window down.

I use a plastic sleeve rubber banded to the visor with an pull-out shade made from aluminum flashing. You could use cardboard instead , as long as it is thin enough to slide easily in and out of the plastic sleeve. image.jpg

This is what I have thought about, but never got around to trying. Seems like I only think about it when I've got the sun shining in, and never think about it when I'm home and could actually rig something up. Thanks for the picture, Robert.

Edit: Just looked up "visor extensions" online and found Visormates at Amazon, made for 2010 and later Prius. Ordered a set, and will post once they arrive.
