We can't be the only few experiencing this issue. I'm wondering if the Driver Monitor is also tied to another feature/system (just as with the Traffic Jam assistance system)??? Perhaps one of the Lane assist features?

Perhaps? I have all driving assistance and alert features enabled except:
    • Obstacle anticipation assist - Proactive driver assist (PDA OAA)
    • Traffic jam assist
    • Driver monitor alerts
    • Rear seat reminder
It’s worth mentioning that the Driver Monitor Alert is a separate menu option from the Driver Monitor.

I never thought we'd have to choose between 20 seconds of screaming immolation or 15 years of nagging driver assistance out of a given car.

    Gotta admit, it's a toughie

To physically remove the cellular connectivity module, consult your owner's manual and Toyota service center. Some options may void warranty, so proceed cautiously. Disabling data sharing through the vehicle settings may address privacy concerns without hardware removal.

Find the cell antenna, and unplug it. You might get warning messages and lose nav, but it is the sure way to disconnect the car from Toyota.

On another note, how many gulags does Toyota run?

In the Union of Socialist Countries of Europe (EU) from the 7th July 2024 all new cars have to be fitted with speed limiters to prevent drivers from exceeding speed limits. Sadly, although the UK is not in the EU, we have adopted this crap. Since my Prius will most certainly be delivered well after that date I think I will be cancelling my order.

I've already disabled Driver Monitor, Driver Break Suggestion, and Traffic Jam Assist - yet the "Driver Monitor Unavailable" alert persists. I've looked everywhere; can you please tell me where the Driver Monitor Alert setting is located in the menu?

That July 2024 is for "all new cars". The rule date for new models was July 2022, so it already applies to the Prius G5. So there won't be any difference...

From what I gather all new cars since July 2022 have this feature installed BUT from July 2024 all new cars have to have it turned on. So I would say that is rather different.

No, dig a bit harder - I looked into this quite hard because the feature annoyed me. You seem to have found some wrong information. The 2022 and 2024 rules are talking about exactly the same features, and those are just the implementation dates for new models and all new cars.

The rule applies to the G5 Prius, because it's new since 2022. and that's why the feature has to be turned on every time it starts - you can disable it, but only until the next time you start the car.

I gather with ALL cars sold after July 2024 this feature cannot be turned off. The only way it can be over ridden is by flooring the accelerator (throttle) to the floor and then the ability to exceed the speed is only temporary.

KMO if you have a link to this subject I would much appreciate it.

There's a thread on what the Prius does to conform to the rules here:

Prius 2023 - no way to silence the speed limit alert? | PriusChat

A speed limiter is one of the options and the Prius does have one you can enable. But the behaviour that's usually chosen by manufacturers, including Toyota, is the audible "exceeding speed limit" warning. Three bings as you cross the speed limit, and doesn't reoccur as long as you stay above it.

The speed limiter option got a certain amount of press for the maximum outrage value, but it's not compelled - what's required is a warning or a limiter.

I have already disabled that setting "Driver Monitor Alert". However, the car still alerts, "Driver Monitor Unavailable See Owners Manual". We are trying to disable that alert.

Hopefully you can figure out what the issue is. I never see that message with my 2024 Prius Prime SE.

    Best of luck.

Thank you sir. I believe because you have Driver Monitor enabled, you will not see "Driver Monitor not available".

This might be a recurring design feature. It says in the manual that 'a dealer' (a scantool) can disable the 'check seat' beeps, but if you do, that means you always get a message on the screen that the function is disabled, which is more annoying.
