Well thankfully we do. We did have to finance part of the car purchase, but its all well within reason and being paid down ahead of schedule and responsibly. Same with our home. Technically we have an "above average" ratio of total debt to annual income, if you look at it on a one year basis. But that's because we're young and when you're young, your mortgage, even if its only 2x your annual HHI, your debt to income ratio is above the average. Since the average includes every adult who doesn't have a mortgage left, for example.

I think the average debt to disposable income ratio right now is 180% in Canada? According to official stats? So for every dollar of after tax income someone has here, they owe $1.80. But if the avg including debt free mortgage free people is this high, that means the indebted ratios are significantly higher.

We also buck the trend by not needing or wanting every bell or whistle. We simply wanted to get a modern, reliable car great on gas and with EV range to cover most of our driving. Shifting our old gas bill into the car payment, and saving us money based on our driving habits after a couple of years vs getting a new not prius sedan. Our other car is still our old 2003 matrix.

My car fits in the garage just fine, but I'd be lying if I power folding passenger side mirror wouldn't be nice to have for folding in when backing in or out of the garage. That extra little bit of space would help and getting in and out of the car to fold them is enough hassle that I've learned to park the car without folding in the passenger mirror. The new gen is wider than my old car though, so getting kids in and out of the back doors while its in the garage is a pain. I can have one side easy to open and get a kid into at a time given the width of the garage. And even then the door bumps the drywall since the previous owner insulated the garage. I'd have more room to open doors if the studs were still exposed lol Always a trade off to be had. Part of me wishes we'd just waited to find a house with a 2 car garage what with the eventual 2 cars to charge in the future. Would be far more convenient in the long run. Oh well, we are stuck with what we've got long term now. Will just need to set up a proper hardwired 2 cable EVSE in the future with a long enough cord to run one of them out the garage.

Also I'm sure people think its a downgrade.

I purchased a bolt over a Tesla, partly because it is smaller and partly because it was cheaper with more bells and whistles, but slow charging and no network. Neither of which I needed.

Now that the Tesla NACS network is open, with a reasonably priced adapter, you actually may imbibe.
Go ahead and belly up to the bar my friend!

oh, i know it can be done, but it is not as convenient or as fast. even a long ranges tesla would add an extra day to our florida trip. not a full day, but enough charging stops to spill over from 3 to 4 days.
    in the hycam from memory:
day 1: boston to fredericksburg, virginia, fill up, go to hotel, 12 hours 500 miles.
day 2: virginia to georgia, fill up, go to hotel, 10 hours, 600 miles.
day 3: savannah to orlando, 4 hours, 250 miles.
i plugged that in to the tesla trip planner and got day 4.
    now if i were single...

    #1?

Great quality, excellent technology, decent prices, excellent distribution network.
    ...
    Oh?? Sorry, that was Kodak.

    Just something to ponder.
