I think it is probably more accurate to state that silver is the most acceptable to people, not necessarily the most popular. I think dealers order more silver because more people are likely to say "I guess silver is OK" even if they came in looking for another color. That's what happened with the two silver priuses my wife and I own. We bought what was on the lot. We wanted the blue, but silver and red is what they had, and the red was definitely not acceptable to my wife. My father has a silver prius too. Not because he was looking for one, but rather because that's what the dealer had.
