meh. I'm not a particular fan of Johnny-Cabs but they have their place in the world, I 'spose. I'm thinking that it will take 'self-driving' cars a few million deaths to catch up with human driven cars. I'll let the haters hate on each other for a few more decades and enjoy the resulting 'driver-less' cars that still have a steering wheel and throttle. It will come in handy when I've reached a state of reduced cognitive function (NOT going THERE!) and perhaps prevent the kids from "having the talk" with me about venturing out on my own in a car. We're an aging population. One of the down-range effects of the 'climate change crisis' of the 1970's is that people are having fewer people and the 'olds' have fewer kids to watch out for them as they live longer and longer. Self driving isn't a PROBLEM. It's a SOLUTION.
I was 69 when I paid $1,500 for Autopilot which was a primary motivator. I'm now 74 with 126,000 miles on the 5 year old car. I agree: Bob Wilson
These stories will always continue as owner/drivers try to paint themselves as victims. Here's one ...... a model X owner kills a doctor and says he knows nothing about it .... must of been the car ... Tesla Driver Doesn't Remember Killing A Pedestrian On Autopilot. .
Prices have varied over the years. Gone up. One can rent FSD for $200/month. If facing a long road trip then I might give it a try.
”but if he did, he would have been alone in his Tesla driving on ‘autopilot,’ not paying attention to the road, while doing things like checking work emails" Not the sharpest tool in the box.
March 26, 2019 - paid $1,500 extra for AutoPilot that is now standard. October 2019 - paid $6,000 for FSD shortly before changing to a new archietecure. Bob Wilson
Salesmen are saying it’s $200/mo, (probably $199.99) subscription option, that you can turn on and off as pleased…
FSD is $12000 USD. $7500 is probably the Enhanced Autopilot. I've read yesterday that the FSD subscription might be coming to Canada.
