OK Are you serious, or just goobin? The way I see it, no matter who makes what, energy is expended, pollution is created, blah blah blah. Lets all go back to riding horses and driving carriages, NO! Wait! Shoot! green house gasses by all the horse farts. Damn, cant win.

 Hmmmm.... Seems any "newbie" would be well advised to spend some time cruising previous posts before jumping into the fray. There's a lot of good information {and BAD information} in the posts' archives. Perhaps this could reduce the regurgitating of repititive posts. I suppose it's easier just to jump in with your 'interesting new information' which has been posted ad nauseum numerous times previously.

When {in October 2004} I first 'found' PriusChat, I spent a lot of time reading current and historical posts to learn all I could about the unique Prius auto... then I began to jump in with my 2¢ comments. The "Search" function, although not perfect, is a great help in finding posts for specific questions and opinions.

Could someone please give me the latitude and longitude for the "giant" mine in Sudbury, Ontario or Nickel Centre. I went to google and terraserver and I looked all around the Sudbury area and saw no evidence of large scale deforestation or a moon like landscape. Maybe I am missing something hear, but if you go to any of the legitimate large mining sites (like 25 miles southwest of Salt Lake city) you can see massive open pit mines with their associated tailings piles.

Also, I can't seem to find Nickel Centre as a place name on the map. I also searched the coastal area of Georgian Bay for massive areas of deforestation and didn't see any. I am not saying that it doesn't exist, but lets have the coordinates so we can see for ourselves.

How to see the large mine around Salt Lake City:

    1. Go to google maps and Zoom in to see the entire Salt Lake City area.
    2. Find the suburb City of Riverton due south of Salt Lake City downtown about 10 miles. Or search for Riverton, UT in the map search function.
    3. Go due west of Riverton about 10 miles and you will see a huge open pit mine and large tailings piles and associated outwash areas.

There's a good "before" and "after" photo at this link . You probably won't find huge areas of devastation like you wouldn't more than 30 years ago.

I found the site and superstack on google maps right in between Sudbury and Copper Cliff to the west. You can see a smoke plume and the superstack. The area of obvious devastation isn't anywhere close to as big at the Utah example, though, if you look around the copper cliff area (especailly to the west) there are a lot of oddly colored lakes.

Apparantly you didn't find the deforested area because much effort was invested over the years to restore the area. Now are you surprised that this piece of cr@p failed to mention that minor detail?

At least the cost of driving the Prius is "hidden", with the Hummer, et al., its out there for all the world to see.
