I was lucky, mine was already at the port in LA when I ordered it so it's just a matter of days until it finds it's way to Phoenix. I'm told that the big factor is if they send it by truck (1 day) or by rail (2-5 days), and since it's not yet here I'm assuming it went by rail. However, hopefully, I'll have it for the weekend!

I bought my Prius from Kearny Mesa Toyota in San Diego.
I called them several times while waiting for the delivery and they were more or less were accurate in their delivery date estimate. I am not aware of any website that tracks orders and deliveries.
I hope your wait won't be as long as mine (10 weeks).

On April 17th I picked my new Prius from a list of cars that were incoming to my dealership. Their allocation sheet said it was on the boat ready to dock in Portland, Oregon within the next 2 days. I called the dealership a week later and they told me it was on the train bound for Chicago do to arrive the first week of May. I spoke to the dealership on May 1st the status still showed on the train, he then called Toyota and said the train with my car was to arrive in West Chicago early AM on the 3rd and that they would have it expedited to the dealer. At 4PM today my car arrived at the dealership. I ran over there to see my car. Everything looked great though it was covered in white plastic on the hood, roof, and hatch lid. I will be picking it up early this afternoon. If the dealer is willing to, it seems they can track your vehicle. :D

Thanks everyone for your answers. I now know a little more about this "ordering" thing. I think tomorrow I will call the sales manager since I didn't get the correct poop from my salesman. If I don't get a correct response from him I will ask for my deposit back and find a dealer whose allotment is coming in sooner than 90 days and see if they have a #6 package available.

I am paying sticker for the #6 and my "salesman" told me that I would be on the orderlist for around 60 - 90 days he said. Such a back log they can't get them in sooner.

    Thanks.

Wow, i've never posted but lurked but I am still famous!! hehe

Good luck in your hunt - I just found out I should be getting mine at the end of May - Magnetic Gray with Dark interior. My wife and I are pretty excited about it. It was either that or the Barcelona Red with Bisque but the Magnetic Gray is on an allocation so we figured we would get it.

I've been lurking here but will post some pics and share my experiences with you all.

I just saw the amount of the tax credit ($3150) and I am pretty happy. I had thought that they were only deductions and wasn't letting that influence my decision, but that's a good chunk of change it will be nice to get back from Uncle Sam.

Sorry I haven't replied until now but I only just saw this :)

    Awesome! Officially embarassed!!

I just realized what someone meant by the "you" tag - I thought that I was really being asked personally.

Well, it did get me to post and not lurk ;)

Sorry, I do not other than to hound the dealer. Mine was supposed to be here on Saturday and it did not get here until today. I gues I should count myself lucky since others are waiting months but once I ordered it I wanted it right then. I called my dealer everyday, twice a day to see if it was in.

In our case no need to really track. We didn't want to receive it until spring --- April--- but we placed the order in October of 2005. In mid March I called the dealer and he indicated that it would be in during the first week of April and it was. took dlivery of it on April 11, 206. In Canada it seems you can indeed place an order for a specific vehicle and it will be there when you want it (the waiting period is about 2 months min. I think.)

Sorry, I don't have any knowledge of tracking your order through the internet. But, I called my salesman weekly. He was very good at telling me when it would arrive -- almost to the day.

 Well, this was certainly a change from the last car we ordered.... We put 1K down and filled out a simple colour exterior, colour interior, package # and then waited about six weeks for a call.

This is a far cry from ordering an Audi back in 2003. With 1.5K, we placed an order, specified the interior, exterior, package, individual options like engine & suspension, radio and wheels... down to each detail. The order was submitted to the factory, then a week later a confirmation from the German factory came in with a "Build week" specified. The whole thing could be tracked as to leaving the factory, at departure port, in transit, received in port, in transit from port and final delivery. That took 3 months! So goes it with custom ordered cars. In the case of the Prius, I felt it was a matter of luck and timing. We got the car we wanted. Package, colour exterior and interior. We are very happy with the Prius. It is worth the six week wait.

I'm glad so many people jumped in to answer the question you directed toward me.

They've all hit the main points.

I don't know if all the dealers track the same way. When I first ordered around 4/19 it was in an 'A' status. Apparently that meant it was allocated to the dealership. They said it would be in LA on 4/24.

It next went to an 'F' status if I'm not mistaken and that seemed to do with confirmation the vehicle was in fact in LA ready to be shipped. From that point they told me it would be about 2 days.

Next it went to a 'G' status and they indicated it was en route to the dealership.

My salesman called me around noon on 4/28 to say still not there and didn't look like it would be ready that day. An hour later he said it arrived and they would try to get it prepped. Around 4pm he said I could get it, but would likely have to return the following week for the tinting.

My wife and I showed up around 6pm to the vehicle ready to go, INCLUDING the tinting. Great effort and service from Avondale Toyota.

Haven't been on the chat line too much. Having too much fun driving it and waxing it. :)

I'm simply not aware of any way to independently get on line to track it on your own.

    Good luck with yours!

Can't tell you how to track an order in the US! Why not ask your dealer for the latest information, surely you trust him after placing and order for such an expensive item with him.

It seems that a lot of the posts on Prius Chat display a marked lack of common sense on the part of the originatoe.

You might want to call another local dealership and ask them if they can check their reports to see if a car with your options is on the incoming list. There is no visibility until the car is actually built and on its way. Good luck.

I went to the dealer and just told him "i want a prius, custom make it", and he told me "alright, its going to take 10 weeks". The dealer told me when the production date was, ETA, and when it shipped. It's mostly communication
