Thks, I was getting crazy delivery times here amongst other things man. Been a crazy week.

I hear ya but I do not want the inverter to die and leave me stranded, plus traveling 90+ miles going 30-40 mph on these hills would be stressful, I feel the inverter will not survive a hill climb without overheating, then I’d be stranded on the highway.

161,000, sorry for responding late I’ve been quite busy!

Thx I watched both vids I really wish there were more 3rd gen youtube vids tho! There are TONS of 2nd gen vids! In the morning I’ll buy some jack stands and start this fix using mostly this walkthrough:
2nd DIY Inverter coolant pump replacement: No inverter touched | PriusChat

Very hostile, even with hazards ppl were honking like nuts as I limped down the highway.

The only tow truck available wanted $850 to take me to El Paso. Before I paid that I wanted to try other things, thank goodness for the guys who let me ride with them to El Paso.

I’ll update you guys in the morning on my progress! I’m back at my car and need to rest to wake and start at 9am at the local napa with jack stands

Wow, I'm sorry you are not having a great time.
I can't seem to find the video of someone getting access to the pump through the wheel well.
After removing the shield, and maybe also removing the headlamp assembly. It was tight, but
    very doable.

I was paying $5 a month extra for towing through progressive. The one time I used it, I found out
it was only for 14 miles from my home! I'm glad I was only about 8 miles from my house!!!
I canceled it and spent the extra money and have AAA now. I chose the 100 mile service because
I didn't have the extra money at the time to get the unlimited.

I do hope you are able to get your Prius running without too much difficulty.

Yikes! I just discovered this thread. We stayed the night in Van Horn a couple years ago on our way from Houston to Tucson (or thereabouts). One of the most desolate places I've seen. Population shrinking by the year, too. I hope you got your pump installed and are no longer stranded, @BrianStranded.

LOL! The one we stayed in was by the Interstate. But I took a walk into town. The picture you have is the one I saw on Wikipedia that was taken in 2001. When I walked into town in 2019, it looked like most of the businesses were closed and I only saw a couple cars or trucks.

However, Blue Origin might have stirred things up a bit. We'll have to take another trip to AZ one of these days and look for ourselves.

@BrianStranded FWIW here's a Repair Manual excerpt, about swapping out the inverter water pump:

I still prefer the method that does not involve removing the inverter.

The only difference I'd do is to clamp off both hoses to minimize the loss of coolant.

Hopefully, he's managed to get it fixed by now and is off to El Paso.

I-10 in West Texas is hundreds of miles of nearly nothing. In a few places the old two lane US highway may be nearby but generally it only exists as an access road for a few miles before and after the dusty old water holes that used to pass as towns. No feeders in a traditional sense except in bigger cities.

Edit: Thanks to our moderator we get old news late. As of 9:46am he bought some jack stands and was working on getting it running.

Speculation and guessing is what car forums are all about. This thread is no different. The OP is part of the fun, hoping an inverter pump will fix it.

The topic was largely how to get 121 miles to El Paso without a car the same day. He essentially hitchhiked and took a bus back. I would have had a tow truck take us and the car to El Paso, someone else suggested driving at low speed, etc. Others hoped Uber, Amazon or Napa would come through.

Big time off topic, but don't forget, we only have one moderator. One or two more moderators might let him do something besides babysit us all day and night.
