I think the plug in will have higher resale value in a few years.

As far as the 'sunroof' or 'sunroof' goes, I've had both. When I had it, I used it occasionally, and now that I don't, I don't miss it. It's not a must have for me. All else being equal, I would choose the PIP.

if there is even a hint of a higher range pip on the horizon, i will dump mine in a heartbeat, or it will be worth nothing.

You think your 2012 PiP will drop below the value of a regular 2012 Prius with similar mileage?

:confused:I'm surprised at your comments, "even a hint", "dump mine", "worth nothing"? Like anything else, we don't know what it's worth until we try to sell. Reality is, that day will come.

i do believe a radical increase in ev potential will severely reduce the value of the gen I pip. i'm not against it, (i want more ev like most everyone) and you're right, i won't know what it is until i know what it is. it is simply my response to mr. electric's statement that it will have a higher resale value in a few years.:)

Can you define what you mean by radical increase in ev potential?

The hov sticker has more resale value than range. Many buy these cars and never plug in. I bet a pip will sell for $5k more than a standard Prius for years to come.

Does the HOV sticker, once given, offer permanent use of the carpool lanes, even if the rules change for newer cars? Over here, one of the reasons for buying the liftback Prius was to get exemption from the congestion charge for driving into central London during the day. That's now been withdrawn, for existing as well as new cars, and only the PiP qualifies. While it would be nice to think that it will still be a selling point for me in several years time, I fully expect the PiP to be non-qualfiying by then.

Until my recent accident, described elsewhere, I too thought the value of a used PiP had dropped way off. However, with 18 months and nearly 20K miles, mine was valued between $27 and 28K. The damages would have had to be at least 75% of that for the car to be totaled by the insurance company. At the time I verified the figures using Edmunds and Kelley Blue Book, because I thought there might have been some fudging going on with the body shop or insurance adjuster. Had mine been totaled, I probably would have been able to buy a new one without adding much cash to the deal.

and you also, are in cali. first we had the huge discounting going on where you could buy a base pip for the same price as a liftback 3. advanced were discounted even more heavily. now they've reduced the msrp. how can that help resale value?
