The Guy from The Tire Place called today and my tires had arrived, so I went over this afternoon to have the Energy Savers swapped out for the Energy Saver A/S.

This time they were right. I double-checked before I left.

For those of you who were curious, I drove 90.5 miles on the Energy Saver at an average speed of 24 MPH and got 51.4 MPG (displayed). This does not include the first 25 or so miles, where I got 57 MPG (displayed) because I didn't think to restart the trip meter until I realized the tires were incorrect. But that first day I was running errands on the east side of town, on mostly flat terrain. The 90.5 miles after I reset the trip indicator are my more usual commute on the west side, up and down hills.

I didn't drive on the Energy Savers long enough to really give a good test. They were much quieter than the Yokohama tires they replaced, and the MPG was comparable to what I got on the Yokos when they were new. They handled fine on dry pavement. We didn't have enough rain this week to test them on wet.

First impression of the Energy Saver A/S: They are very, very quiet - even more than the Energy Saver. I turned my radio down some more. I've enjoyed them very much for the 6 miles I've driven them.

I also filled my tank up on the way home. New tires. New tank. Easier to see if there's a difference. Although I expect it to take 1000 miles or so to really tell.

So they are quieter than your OE Yokohamas and the Energy Saver summer tires? I look forward to reading your opinion on handling and mpg as well. :)

Much, much quieter than the OE Yokohamas. And surprisingly quieter than the Energy Saver summer tires, which I did not expect.

When I first left The Tire Place I had the radio off, and I suddenly realized that I could hear things going on outside the car. With the windows rolled up. While moving on Oregon's noisy streets. It was quiet in the cabin. Really quiet. Even the patch of bad road near my house that sounds like driving over sandpaper strewn with chunks of coal while popping popcorn wasn't bad at all. :) I'm impressed. Hope it lasts.

I'll report back in a few hundred miles when I've had a chance to give them a decent workout. :D

I've sent this same reply on another thread, but this one seems more appropriate. I've just replaced the Michelin P215/45R17 87V TOY B Pilot HX MX4 (!!) tires on our 2010 Prius V model 5. The old tires had 67000 miles on them (mostly highway), performed very well in snow, and the car averaged 50.5 mpg over the 2.75 years we had them. But the replacement cost was $215/tire with a rebate. Any ideas for a replacement that wouldn't cost as much, but still deliver the milage?

That sounds like a great tire I'd be buying again.
