Because our Prime beeps and nags so much we've named it 'Penfold', so when it does beep/nag we say "Penfold, shush!" in our best British accent...
LOL, and over here the Brits are frequently trying to copy American accents (with limited success, I might add)!
You folks are the ones with the accent, not us. ... Well, except for Alabama, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Georgia, Southern Ohio, and a few other places. Oh, and as for the original question, no, I never have named a car. Only ever named one motorcycle. It was "Everready," because it was always ready to go for a ride.
Marlinsmobile IV! My first car was a bright turquoise Chevy Cavalier that my friends nicknamed the Marlinsmobile (as in "Quick, to the Marlinsmobile!") because the color matched my favorite team, the Miami (formerly Florida) Marlins. I am the child of a midwesterner and a Canadian, I grew up in South Florida, and I now live in Georgia. My accent is pretty messed up!
Partially from the license plate and partially because I like the Star Trek series, my car is named "Voyager"
Forgot to mention in my earlier post, mine's called Poppy because she's red and it was the time of build up to the Royal British Legion Poppy Day Appeal raising money for war veterans when I got my car. It is celebrated annually over here on November 11th @ 11:00am.
Never named my vehicles, last summer I bought a 16 model 4, 4. The salesman coached me on two words to describe the experience to the person that Toyota would have call, well, no call, but the two words I decided up were “Insanely Unprofessional” This summer I traded it for a Prius prime advanced, it’s name “Bait n Switch” White river Toyota, vt, negotiated 6000$ higher than their first bid, after signing I found the car had 1000 miles on it, they went up 25% in their bid, that was lots of fun, they sold me a used car, that was eye opening, it had’nt been registered, just driven daily, and now they want me to advise others to go there for a new car, well, if others read this, they will be glad
Remembrance Day is/was celebrated in Canada too. First World War Poems - In Flanders Fields by John McCrae
All my vehicles have female names: 1) when they had drive belts they often whined 2) At one time or another they have all been temperamental 3) on more than one occasion they have leaked red transmission fluid
Thanks for the fuller explanation as it is different from the American Veterans Day celebration and is commemorated throughout the British Commonwealth. It doesn't discriminate between race, colour, class, or creed. All the fallen are remembered with great respect.
I've never named my vehicles, but the 2010 was "The Prius" and now that I have the Prime, It just does not feel right and catches in my throat when I start to say let's take "The Prius." Somehow saying The Prime doesn't work either. I've started saying let's travel EV.
