"Heartland" sounds so benevolent and Mother Earthish, doesn't it? I'm sure that's intentional. ;)

    Here's another take:

Like I've said, I don't keep up with the C02 issue because imo it's collateral to all the other 100% provable bad issues of smog. I just did a wiki search to learn more about heartland institute, and was intrigued that the tobacco industry had hired the group at one time to counter the rising tide of anti tobacco sentiment that was quickly swelling up. :D Found that funny. Didn't know that GM was a heartland sponsor until recently ... and I guess that they'd have likely hoped to keep that a bit of a secret ... but now that the cat is out of the bag, GM is looking into back pedaling ...

GM's Akerson says he will review GM Foundation's funding for Heartland Institute
    ;)

Heartland is a bastard child of what once were called 'think tanks.' RAND from the 1960's is a good example I think of the original corporations that offered broad based expert consultancy.

Very quickly though, imitators cottoned on to the 'think tank' label, but actually were just guns for fire in PR and propaganda wars. HI has about the same intellectual legitimacy as CNW marketing.
