Headlights burning out too often?

Mine is a 2011 Prius 2. I can change out both low beam bulbs in less than 10 min. I have never had a high beam to go out yet. I do not know why they would have to remove the front bumper. You just rotate bulb counterclockwise 45 degree or so and pull them out the back, The worst thing is getting the connector loose from the bulb before attempting the rotation, you have to squeeze it together. I just always use a pair of thin rubber gloves to keep finger prints off bulb so they say. Just reverse procedure for installing bulbs. No the bulbs are fixed in place, could have been a bad bulb or not installed right.

 

I replaced my original headlamps when one burned out about a year ago I think. I bought the Sylvania H11 based on opinions and recommendations of those in this forum.

Well, yesterday I drove home at dusk without any low beam headlamp lights.

Guess I'll just get the cheaper, non HID bulbs this time and hope for a longer run on them.

 

I must be lucky. I still have the original bulbs in my 2010 with 55K miles and six years, three months on the clock. I was thinking of replacing them with a set of new bulbs but after reading this thread I'll keep them until one finally decides to burns out.

 

@ALS, you do know that bulbs dim as they get older, right?
