Talk to her about it. But if you can figure an easy way to avoid doing something you don't like to do a third of the time, wouldn't you do it? For instance, if I tell you to hit yourself in the face really hard three times in a row, and you only do it twice, you'll feel pretty smart!

She also won't get gas if it means making left turns to cross lanes of oncoming traffic. I tell her to drive backwards, and those left turns will become right turns. Talk about feeling pretty smart...

Not so funny story I guess. We go to test drive a 2008 black, tinted (no GPS) prius for about $17k. I am trying to convince my wife she wants this car, as it is much nicer than her 2001 new beetle that gets 17mpg.

I drive it off of the lot and just marvel at how quiet it is, as I am exiting I tell her I am going to "punch it" and see what kind of acceleration the car has. Little do I know it has been out of gas for some time and the battery is going dead. It gets up to 17 mph and starts going down from there.

We called our salesman who brought out 2 gallons of gas, and the car still got 43mpg while charging the battery back up (within a few minutes).

We still bought the car, but they did give us not one, but two full tanks of gas for the trouble. I did not exactly get the price to move down any, but I got the exact car I wanted (found out later I don't want GPS, just the bluetooth) for the price I wanted, and got $3500 for her car that had some serious front end problems.

The car runs fine, and now I have the knowledge of exactly how far you can push the car before running out of gas/battery power. Its not some looming thing in the back of my mind as to when and how it will happen. 7 years of 24/7 roadside assistance is nice too.. they will bring me 3 gallons of gas free of charge.

it is nice to know for sure that you can run out of gas and it doesn't hurt anything. the good thing is that the battery gives you something to pull over in a safe place! when i ran out, it was the bottom of a hill and i was able to drive on battery to a nice intersection with a safe off road place to park. came back with some gas, fired her up and drove home. sweet! (except for the 2 mile walk for the gas, at night, in the cold rain:(.)

I drove 19 miles after the last pip started to blink, filled up with 9.9 gals, about 468 miles. So I think 20 miles will be my limit, but mostly fill up on the last pip. But, just for fun, I may really see just how far I can go and carry some extra gas when I get to the last pip. If I fill up with 11 to 11.5 gals, then I know I've reached the extreme limit. :)

I usually can go about 75 more miles when my last PIP starts blinking. The most went on a tank was 577 on 11.3 gallons. I guess I had about a half a tank left but thats about as close I want to get. It is like a game as mentioned above to see how far you can take it.
