Have you ever seen the end of miles to go?????

    My Subaru's DTE display reverts to "---" once its number drops below 30 miles.

    But unlike the Prius, this Subaru has no reserve margin built in to its DTE. When it says 30 miles left (always rounded to 10s), it means about 30 miles to actual fuel starvation. But at this point, it has already issued several prior low fuel warnings: icons in contrasting colors on two display panels (about 40 miles earlier), and zero bars on the fuel gauge (about 20 miles earlier).

    I've previously mentioned that when running an intentional test of this, I wussed out and pulled into the very last fuel station before a 70 mile stretch without fuel service. The engine died of fuel starvation while I was opening up my fuel log book. The refill was within 0.1 gallon of the advertised tank capacity.
