Have iPhone... Do I really need Entune?

I have read the iPhone 4s has a newer version of Bluetooth that is newer but have no way to verify. W

 

It may have to do with differences between how iOS and Android handle tethering but I assure you the only solution on iOS is to get a tethering plan. Perhaps Android allows you to bypass the carrier's restrictions more easily.

I'm surprised it even works on iOS without a tethering plan with the phone plugged in and the Entune app open. That is still technically tethering and Apple seems to have made an exception to their normal policy on that.

 

That's what I was thinking as Apple and AT&T have usually blocked USB tethering apps in the past. I would expect that there is way more flexibility for developers on Android since they don't need anyone's "blessing" to release an app.

 

On Android phones (and even on Blackberries!) there is no need for a "tethering" feature on your phone's rate plan or any kind of rooting/jailbreaking, for the Bluetooth functionality to work. My understanding is that there was some issue with Apple's implementation of certain Bluetooth profiles that Toyota and/or Apple had to sort out.

 

My blutooth suddenly stopped working with my iPhone 4S. When I checked both system, the blutooth still is connected to my iPhone. However it cannot find it. What happened all the sudden? Is it a part of problem you have been discussing about iPhone and Bluetooth?

 

I haven't had the issue but it's not unheard of. I would delete the iPhone from the radio's bluetooth settings as well as the iPhone. Then when you pair them again let the radio lead the process. We did it this way and so far so good. The issue I have talked about is how apple manages bluetooth pairing. It isn't friendly to the radio's needs over Bluetooth. W

 

As useless as entune already is, it's compounded by the fact that it's even more useless if the car is in motion. So it's double down mega ultra useless. I wouldn't miss it for a second if I didn't have it as the few times I've tried to use it it's been a miserable failure even though it was working as it is designed to.

 

Entune is pretty much useless to me. I can't remember a time driving around that I needed to purchase movie tickets in my car on a whim. How many radio stations does one person need? I haven't needed to listen to iHeart Radio or Pandora because with satellite radio, am, fm, CD, DVD and iPod I think i'm good on music options. What else, oh, Open Table might be useful for big cities but where I live I'll never need to link it. Bing might become useful if it does full fledged searches while driving but I thought I read I need the speed lock kit to achieve full funtionality, IDK.

Sorry for the rant but Entune doesn't come close to meeting my demographic or needs.

It can work off of your data plan instead of hotspot. My 4s has to be tethered. I get out of that initial screen on the phone and launch the Entunes app. Everything works. However, i use my system as follows. I connect my phone via bluetooth for handsfree talking and leave it in my pocket. I purchased a 32gb usb drive for $19 and transferred my entire Itunes collection and plugged it into the car. This works great since the data and album art appear on the head system. No cables are being used. I don't use other Entune features because I don't need them. Nav system works fine on its own. If they resolve the Bluetooth issues with connecting to Entunes, I'll give it a try but I like having my phone and keys in a pant pockets and no cables. It's liberating.
