It certainly has been an interesting season. Cooler temperatures seem to be dominating, with a July frost - never before reported - on Prince Edward island in Canada as an example. Also record cool temperatures in Chicago, heavy rains back east from what I have heard, and even a string of relatively cool days reported in Phoenix during June.

There have also been cold records set in Europe and rare snow in the middle east this year.

It certainly seems odd. Of course, if record warm temperatures were being set, the news media would treat it as certain evidence of global warming. ;-)

Alaska has seen record high temps... in some cases the record highs really shattered the previous records.

I'm not gonna complain about the cooler temps, that's for damn sure... glad I'm not in AK though (for a number of reasons).

NBC News mentioned weather weirdness last night as well. there was golf ball sized hail in Houston, Tx...the ice did not last long as it was near 100º... they also mentioned that New York had 24 days of rain in the month of June alone.

Seattle dry as a bone, continued droughts in the Southwest, floods in the southeast (which is good since a lot of that area had been dry the past few years... then again, its the adage "When it rains, it pours")

I track precipitation records in my area and I have to admit this has been an odd year.

We received our normal rains in November then it dried up until January which negatively affects the growth of non-native grasses. Yay! But then as winter and spring rolled on the weather was quite odd. We would see near record highs then a storm or cold period. We ended up with near 2inches of more precipitation than last year but we are still below the average. I was able to do our grassland vegetation survery a full month+ later than we could last year and some of the plants were still green and identifiable. Then we got blasted with 109deg temps then back to "cool" 90s.

In all it has been an odd year with random precipitation and blazing hot days then cool days. Odd to say the least.

And then there's Tim, still blithering away about how changing weather has nothing to do with climate change.

My wife and I were talking about the weather and how (overall) cool it has been this summer. We had some really warm weather in early July, but that really has been about it. I'm still marveling about the dew I'm seeing on my car windows when I come out in the morning to drive to work, typically don't see that until Sept/Oct (Fall).

The AC has only turned on 2 - 3 times this year, and with the cooler weather, we can open up the windows at night and get the house below 70F, which typically means no AC the following day. Good for our energy surplus!

7 of the next 10 days are supposed to be in the low 90's / high 80's in N.W. Montana ... which is typical of this time of year. Our daughter's baby shower was in Riverside CA last Saturday ... 102 degrees ... also typical. Wife's birthday was Sunday ... here in O.C. & it was maybe 89. normal.

The solstice / longest day is normally not associated with the hottest days of summer ... rather later in the season. Just like the winter solstice / shortest day (late December) is. Typically the coldest days are over a month after Christmas ... maybe January/February. Glaciers have melted back for 1,000's of years. Isn't that why we now have 'Great-Lakes'? ... in stead of great Ice packs? Whether the warming trend is speeding up over the millenia is the brain teaser. A few atypical hot or cold decades varying from the norm, does not a 'global-warming' make. right?

The beauty of being proactive towards the 'possibility' of GW is that (colaterally) one uses less fossil fuel ... and most will finally admit now ... that all the cheep ... easy to get to stuff is gone. So finally, many folks are becoming more thrifty in their thinking about fuel use.

??? Not sure I understand your point. Are you blaming this year's cool weather on global warming? Not trying to start an argument - just trying to clarify the unintelligible pot-shot you are taking at me. ;-)

Looks like at least one day this week will be about average, so far it has been below. I love this weather, hate the hot humid sticky crap.

I assume that is the case. Weather extremes are the hallmark of global climate change. That said, only a naive or silly person would ever associate a local weather event with the global climate. Doing that makes as much sense as saying that the State of Michigan is sinking into the earth because I have a pothole in the road outside my house.

Wet and 14 here. Of course that is celsius. Been a cool winter here.
How do you stop the water in the pipes boiling at 116?

Icrease the pressure on the water in the pipes. I wouldn't stand too close to the faucet when you decide to turn it on though....

So true. In Florida it could take the entire state with it.

Alright, call it a pot-shot. It was a response to yet another snide remark from you about climate change reporting. Seriously, have you ever posted here about anything else?

well, GW, GCC, whatever... New Study From NASA... measuring "multi-year" Arctic Sea Ice during the summer months (this is Ice that has lasted at least 2 years) there has been an average 7 inch decline in depth PER YEAR from 2004 to 2008.

so... take it or leave it. im sure there is plenty of "evidence" for and against either side of this issue

In the Boston area, too. It's finally warmed up, though it's still not hot hot (mornings and evenings are cool--more like late summer/early fall weather). I love not having the AC on (haven't even installed the window units). But summer here is so short that I hate to miss any of it.

Some of that can be attributed to lack of precipitation which adds to the the ice layer. I noticed in that article it did not state any snowfall totals during the time period stated. Lack of snow cover on the ice can help the sun warm it, and once the ice starts disappearing, and the water warms up, it has an accumulating effect on ice melt. Dark water is great for sucking up the suns heat, makes me wonder why they don't use dark colors in swimming pools.

Yeah, The Global Warming smear tactic had to be changed.

    Now it's Global Climate Change.

We've been in a cooling pattern for 9 years.
