I cancelled and reordered through Dianne. 'twas easy. Why? The place I would've liked to take delivery from didn't seem to know what they were supposed to do to close the deal. They could press the "OK" button, but had no clue about the pre-order program.

So on the off-chance that I could actually talk with someone who knew about all of this, I called Dianne. We cancelled the order from one place, and I reordered through her at Carson.

There's no telling what might happen to a car in a place where the sales people can't even figure out how to sell me the car. I feel much better about ordering through a dealership that will have plenty of experience with these new cars by the time mine rolls off the boat.

I don't expect to use the golf cart mode on most days. But on trips around the neighborhood and on weekends, I won't use any gas. So it'll be like having two vehicles in one. I'll still get 50mpg on my daily commute, and I know I'll get 9999mpg when I'm wheeling around town on the battery.

That said, I am wondering how much this new car will affect the electric bill. In So Cal, we pay almost as much per kWh as they do in Hawaii…

    Pulled the Plug

    :focus:
OK, I ... er ... pulled the plug, so to speak. Cancelled my silver, order 550, confirm 12 hours into the pre-order period.

Immediately ordered a blue, order 3793, confirm 21 days in.

It went seamlessly. Andrey from Putnam Toyota was on the phone with me, immediately entered my PriusChat Certified Dealer price and I'm back in the queue. Moved from about #62 to #82 in the "order complete" column of the spreadsheet, so that shouldn't be too horrible a hit.

And I can now look forward to being able to find my PIP in a parking lot. (No disrespect meant to all you owners of elegant silver cars, of course.)

Good choice with the color! :)

I am amazed at how few people like the blue.

It also amazes me how many people like white cars (but I guess that is just personal taste...I would never own a white car).

Oh, swell. There goes my resale value. :(

I'll just have to keep it for 15 years, like my current car. :)

Actually the blue is about average - 18% of the pre-orders in the spreadsheet when I did this tabulation.

I think white is elegant and high visibility. But a white car doesn't ... er ... move me.

Do you pay that much off-peak?

In Hawaii the electricity is mostly from diesel (well petroleum fractions including diesel) so I believe it's just a fixed cost/kWh and it's equivalent to a 50mpg car. However, they are gradually increasing their renewable percentage although they really need to get some good transmission cables installed to maximize use of wind.

Anyway, enjoy your HOV lane access.

Hey it's ok GG. If you cancel before the Dec 15th deadline, it will move the entire line up one. If you cancel afterwards, the next person in line after you will just get their car sooner. It's not really a bonus car for me because as I understand, it will count against my regular allocation anyway so it's six to one, half a dozen to another in this case.

I can say that many of us Californians are buying this car for the HOV lane stickers. I know I am... And it's been a discussion with many. I can buy TWO Prius c models for what an advanced tech package phev will cost. But, ya can't buy time. I'm soooooooo tired of sitting in traffic.

Thanks Dianne, I figured you wouldn't really care one way or the other. I'll probably go through with it or I would not have placed the order. But my rational brain keeps trying to override my hobbyist artistic soul! And for those who are wondering, no, I would not even consider the standard trim after owning a 5 with the AT package. Plus, I really want that power seat!

White and Silver are the only colors that aren't wimpy and wishy-washy. A blue that isn't blue, a green that isn't green, and a black that isn't black... these things don't appeal to me.

:fish2: We're not trolling, are we?

Hey, some people like strong colors; some like subtle ones. That's why all five colors got between 14% and 28% on the orders spreadsheet, last I looked.

And my blue is definitely a (light) blue - or should I go see my eye doctor?

I think the blue on the non-plug-in Prius is way too dark (almost black-like). I am glad the blue on my PiP is lighter than that (although it might be a bit too light blue, but that's ok).

cancelled mine when i found out that i would have to run the ICE to warm the inside of the car in cold weather.i'm retired and almost all my driving is less than 5miles except the once or twice a year we travel.using the ICE defeats the purpose ,for me,of buying the car.i guess i'll just stick with my 2004w/only 66,000.

The heated seats might be good enough for me if I only had to drive 5 miles.

From what you say, your situation is like mine.

I seldom turn on the heat in my present '06 preferring that the available heat be used to warm the engine. Just leaving my warm jacket on while I drive removes the chore of putting a jacket on later to get out of the car into the cold cruel world.

There is no shame in deciding that you don't really need a new car. The heater thing is not a deal breaker for me, especially as iRun26.2 says, there are heated seats.

2010 Average Residential Rate for California is $14.75 kWh and $28.10 kWh in Hawaii. Obviously if you have off peak pricing for charging, it will should be lower than $14.75 kWh in California (as no off pricing peak in Hawaii).

2010 Average Residential Rates for all 50 states attached.

You mean 14.75 cents/kWh. So a full charge each night - the maximum - would be about $16/mo.

In PG&E territory (Northern and Central California) it's 14 cents, but if you get into higher usage tiers that jumps to 29 cents and more.

PG&E has optional time-of-use rates, including one just for plug-in owners, going as low as 3 1/2 - 4 1/2 cents in early morning hours for low usage customers. But since TOU rates are much higher in peak daytime periods, the chances are that these specialized rates would not benefit relatively low usage plug-ins like the PIP.

Analysis of which rate is best for someone is complex, and beyond most electric customers. Heck, it's even beyond PG&E, though they pretend otherwise.

I cancelled when I saw the crappy color palate and found out that the sunroof was not available. You would think Toyota would want this vehicle to get noticed, not with these colors. I had every intention of dropping 40 G's on the advanced but I'm not going to settle for Easter egg blue or grey. I will wait because Toyota will eventually include a power out option like the Japan version.
