Went to the dealer because I cannot plug the charger into the outlet anymore. Turns out the O ring is damaged and they cannot order that part. The guy at the counter says the ring is to keep out moisture and that charging without it cause a short circuit. I haven't checked other chargers to see if they also have this O ring that came with the Prius in 2012. This seems a bit ridiculous that I should order another charger at $800 because they do not sell the O ring. I see some of you have removed the O ring. Have you had any issues with rain? I live in the PNW.

Many of us have removed the o-ring and get along just fine without it, even in the rain.

Welcome, @Lillylee. Mine came without an o-ring. (Bought it used two years ago.) I've charged outside in Florida deluges countless times. If you look at how it's made, water can't get in there without submerging the whole car. As @Pluggo said, lots of us have removed the o-ring.

Edit to add, if you ever do need another EVSE, don't buy it from the thieves at Toyota. There are lots of them way cheaper on Amazon and EBay. Nissan Leaf EVSE cables also work well in the PiP.

na, just toss it, they don't use it on the new ones, nor any of the aftermarket units.

and no one has ever reported a problem after eliminating it. on the contrary, you're eliminating the problem.

Thank you everyone. It's plugged in now without the O ring, in a light misty rain. Does look near impossible to get water in.
