I believe that's the same as "acute lead poisoning."

Excellent choice. The safest and most effective self defense is a stick. Guns get the owner and his acquaintances shot 95% of the time. That some poor schlub is so terrified he thinks he should carry a cannon in this car and actually puts himself in real danger vs. his fantasy fears.

Not trying to turn this into a gun debate but where did you get that "95%" statistic from?

It started out as a gun debate, someone who was so frightened driving their car they were carrying around a massive cannon, both afraid of and hoping for that confrontation where they can shoot their inner fears.

They are lucky if they just shoot the dog, it's usually themselves, family or acquaintances.

In his first publication on the subject, in 1986, Kellermann studied all gunshot related deaths in Seattle over six years, and found that
    • 54% of firearm-related deaths occurred in the home where the gun was kept
    • 70.5% of these (firearm-related deaths in the home where the gun was kept) involved handguns
    • 0.5% of these (firearm-related deaths in the home where the gun was kept) involved an intruder shot while attempting entry
    • 1.8% of these (firearm-related deaths in the home where the gun was kept) were judged by police as self-defense
    • there were 1.3 times as many accidental firearm-related deaths in the home where the gun was kept as self-protection shootings
    • there were 4.6 times as many criminal firearm-related homicides in the home where the gun was kept as self-protection shootings
    • there were 37 times as many suicides in the home where the gun was kept as self-protection shootings.

Which is his constitutional right to do so. And since you neglected to answer my question the first time I'll ask again - where did you get that statistic from?

    (*sigh!*)
First of all...there are many more CCP holders who drive Priuses than one might imagine. One of the cooler things about ideologues is that they always over-reach. I started carrying in the mid 80's. It wasn't very much fun. My first issuing state (IN) had strict laws at the time against concealed carry. They bordered on KY, which allowed pistols to be carried but only if they were not concealed....however (comma!) then you get into brandishing or 'exhibition'. Back in the 80's reciprocity laws were a very sketchy thing.

Fast forward through the 90's and the Brady laws??? Now one can carry in nearly every state, and thanks to the current President, one can also carry in many National Parks.
One of the principal reasons I got my very first CCP all those years ago is because the application of the terms "concealed" and "brandish" are subject to interpretation in real time by LEO, who has enough crap to deal with. A CCP removes all doubts.

Fortunately, most CCP holders do not sweat small stuff like getting tailgated, and 99.44 percent of those in our community go through life without very much at all in the way of CNN moments. Oh......there are the one percenters who give the rest of us a bad name (much like Prius drivers.)
Generally speaking I carry a 5-shot Smith magnum with a shot shell in hole #first. I get snickered at semi-regularly by "range experts" but the way I have it figured is that I'm going to pick 'flight' over fight any time I get a chance. The one disadvantage to carrying a wheel gun over an auto is that I can't break it down and carry just the receiver into stores, etc.....but that's what the CCP is for. ;)
Idiot liberals who try to legislate their way into some kind of gun-free dystopian society are like the idiot conservatives who try to do the same thing with reproductive rights. That really sharp pain that you're feeling in your forehead????
That's what happens when you try to wham your head against a brick wall.
It's like a Chinese finger puzzle. The harder the libs try to outlaw guns.....the more gun rights I wind up with!!! Hopefully, after my CinC gets his second term he'll try Brady 2.0!! I've always wanted a National CCP and that would just about close the deal!!!!! :D

Doubtful, Prius is a older, higher income, higher education demographic low on the gun ownership scale overall. Since no stat exists on it, no one can say definitively but if the Prius owner demographic is known and that demographic in turn is low on gun ownership, fair to say few Prius owners are so fearful of life of they carry guns in the car.

You really shouldn't work with numbers you know.
95-percent of your statistics are 100-percent wrong.....and we won't even go into your interpretation of the USC (as amended.)

^^^this guys quotes numbers from 26 years ago from a single state and thinks it applies to all. This is exactly why I carry because of stubborn people.

I can agree with your repeating premise. "Carrying around a massive cannon" is a bad idea. With the proper training and certification, a Glock 27 is a far better choice.

I love how the libs have to turn everything into a debate and feel we actually give a rats turd what their opinion is. I drive a prius, I carry a gun. Don't care what he/she thinks and will never attempt to dissuade them either way.
And for the record, it's either and xdm a colt detective special or a colt mustang pocket light. Depending on the mood or the attire.

"This guy" (Prof. Kellerman) is currently head of RAND Corporation's health care division. RAND is a very conservative, military heavy consulting and research group. His credentials are unquestioned and he approached the issue of gun violence from the medical aspect, who gets shot, how badly, by what which is his area of expertise as RAND recognized.

It is interesting that it is the medical field which has to deal with the gun deaths and injury that provides the most reliable and in depth statistical information on the US gun violence problem.

That gun violence is mostly in the home of the gun owner and involves family or acquaintances of the gun owner has and is a consistently statistical fact.

Proper training brings up a good point. Recognizing a threat, being able to respond to it accurately both in terms of who is the actual threat and not hitting bystanders is very hard even for trained professionals. The amateurs have no real training and would be a menace in any real situation, likely killing and injuring everyone but the threat in a real situation. That is why those who imagine threats where none exist (in this driving down the road where in one's car) and arm themselves with handguns create a situation where it is they and their family and acquaintances who end up being the victims of gun violence.

The statistically safest thing one can do is make sure there are no guns in the home, car, office etc.

True enough....but I find that most hate is based on ignorance and fear. If you're an adult, and you have a three digit IQ...read and decide for yourself.
Most of the time the haters of the world will trip themselves up and expose their ignorance about the subject of their pet hate. They can't help themselves, and so a frank and open discussion can actually cause them to work for YOUR cause.
Most people are in the extreme center (to borrow a turn of phrase from LR&C) politically and on most issues, and thus statements like "The statistically safest thing one can do is make sure there are no guns in the home, car, office etc." cannot possibly be interpreted as anything other than a desire to disenfranchise people of a very closely held fundamental right.

    This isn't ideologically based btw.
There are hate filled, statistics spouting control freaks who also happen to be conservative, which is why you get daffy statements about rape and abortion, which make about as much sense as "If we take all (of your) guns away then you will be safe."

If you're on the right side of right and wrong?
You don't need to play arithmetic gymnastics with statistics. You don't need to yell...or try to stifle speech. Sometimes.....all you have to do is sit back and let the folks who are on the other side do most of the heavy lifting for you. ;)

I make concealed carry holsters as a hobby (on cold rainy days) and don't advertise that I carry even though I have a ccl . Another thing I learned : You don't have to be a liberal to drive a Prius. I've heard that more guns, less crime
