Spot on WJTracy. Driving the Prius at 70-75 mph really takes a hit on mpg. Like you quoted 44-46 mpg. I took a trip this summer, after the engine is fully warmed, I was averaging 57 mpg at 63 mph using cruise control for extended periods. I might add, the Prius at 63 mph has a relaxed comfortable feeling while driving. At 75 mph I feel it is much more "stressed."

I feel the same way as you NJ. When I am on the highway, I set the cruise at 63 which is 62 on the GPS and am very comfortable. At 70 or higher I feel as if the car is driving me rather than me driving the car. It might be fine for the young and young at heart, but for those who are getting up in years for the most part (including myself) are looking for comfort, low stress, and the economy that the Prius gives.

Well I wonder if OP ever got the Prius...at 300 miles per day, a Prius is a no-brainer if saving fuel costs is your objective.

I hear ya. You see a lot of folks asking questions, but never come back. I hope he did find one. I think they are worth every penny especially when I fill up.

just bought 2004 from NC, drove 1200 miles back to TX.
cruise around 70 mph, get 47 to 48 mpg.
