Growing/Going Cheap Or Not?

Our 3rd gens textured grey is dang near perfect. Gloss black, or white, is going to show every scuff.

 

I wonder if you can get a white/ivory applique to cover all the BLACK. I hate it. The white has shown no scuffs at all in 2 years.

 

We can offer guesses on those details but they changed the trim packaging for 2017, mid-2017, and 2018. Some trims now have the large tablet-like display introduced in the Prime, for instance.

HaHaHaHa - might be some dandruff (and I have used that potion), but I think I drop more hair these days. But it's just mostly dust.

White trim is the solution.

Actually not ivory, when the Gen 4 was first introduced Toyota advertised the white interior pieces as being “reminiscent of fine bone china”. Although many of us instead saw them as reminiscent of fine bathroom fixtures.

 

Especially...uhh..men's room fixtures.

 

The porcelain-white basin at the front is purportedly for phone charging. I'd be curious how many owners actually use it for that, regularly.

 

I don't but then again, mine does not have the charger either.

 

The induction charging is a lot slower, say twice as long?

 

I have heard that if you have your phone on it barely keeps up. So if your phone is already charged then I suppose it's convenient because you can just toss the phone onto the tray and it will maintain its charge. But if you need to recharge your phone during say a 30 minute drive you need to plug it into a 12V adapter.

I'd say the majority of people don't even have a QI compliant phone.
I might take mine out and fit a proper urinal drain in there for when I get caught short.

 

Not me - my phone is old. But it's still useful to put the phone there - and lots of other stuff

 

I've been told that before you put it in there, turn off WiFi and anything else you don't need (& GPS which I have OFF all the time. One guy suggested turning off Mobile Data too - unless you're using phone Maps, you'll still get phone calls and TEXT messages with Data OFF. He said it will actually charge with them all off - but might depend on the phone.

Probably a good idea. I find that if I do a restart, the battery often lasts longer. My Mum was in hospital for 5 months last year where I couldn't charge my phone, and it kept going flat if I was there for extended sessions - someone suggested that, and it seemed to help.

 

Haven't heard of that I'll have to try it. It probably closes applications and services that had been running in the background. I carry one of those small batteries in my pocket if I'm going to be somewhere for any length of time, they make some that are pretty slim. I have a couple that have a short little built-in charge cable, for the others I have a very short cable that I just leave plugged into it. They make even bigger ones but they can be a little too unwieldy to carry in your pocket, however the larger ones are good at home in case of a power failure. In fact I also have one of those lithium battery starters that I keep in my car, the ones that are about the size of a very small book which you can use to jump-start your car (or other people's cars) if the 12 volt dies. It also has a couple of USB jacks on it and can run the phone for quite a long time. And if I ever had a really long power outage like several days I always have my UPS battery for my computer which has plenty of power for charging the phone. We have had sometimes in Atlanta weather situations that cause people to be out of power for a day or more, afterwards I'll hear people talk about how their phone died and they had no way to charge it. I'm surprised how many people don't have batteries available at home or in the car. And yes of course we can use our Prius for a power supply although that should be a last resort.
